Noni Bacca Winery

I left feeling I had some great wine and met a great Patriot. Sometimes you have to be engaging to be engaged. Noni was very hospitable. We inquired about her wines, how they were made, how she became to be in the wine business and she was very forthcoming and happy to talk about her wines and how they came to be. I’m a sweet and my friend is more of a dry wine drinker, we both found several wines that we really liked. For the price you are going to try a lot of wines and Noni doesn’t just pour you a teaser, she pours you a pleaser. My only disappointment is that Noni and her wines aren’t closer to home as we greatly enjoyed them both!

This is a tiny bit off the beaten path (i.e., you have to drive off the main roads to get to it, unlike most places here. It’s a lovely spot with a very kind and accommodating owner and a pretty varied selection of wines for tasting and purchase. Reservations not required, but probably a call ahead for groups of 5+ would be appreciated.

Well, me and my husband are not wine drinkers by any means and we decided to do something a little bit different. You have to live a little at times. So we chose to sample different wines at Sanctuary Vineyards in North Carolina we are from Virginia by the way. We sampled 8 to 9 different wines and we were getting a buzz off of the first few wines!! Different strokes for different folks I may say!! They snuck up on us like a snake hidden in the grass!! Alton and Alexis were really nice and informative about the different wines. You, of course can purchase any wine selections that they have. Mr. Alton was hilarious and quite comical! We would definitely recommend.... So here's a toast to the newest wine drinkers!!!!!Us!!! Cheers!!!!!!????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

My fiancé and I have brought friends and family here, but this is also one place we love to go to for day dates. This is a family owned and operated winery that originally started as a gift shop. They have a wide variety of dry, semi-sweet, and sweet NC wine that is brewed by the brother of the family. The mother runs the gift shop that has wonderful quirky wine gifts and she is such a sweetheart. DO NOT bring your own food because they sell cheese and meats there. If you go on a weekend it is an event, there are a lot of people and good appetizers. They have tastings and wine by the glass, try "The Chief" blend by the glass.

Country Squire Winery

Reviewed By JJDerek - Greenville, United States

My husband and I went to the Country Squire through a package my husband purchased as a surprise. Everyone person we met along the way was so helpful and friendly. The package started when they gave us our room. It has such a homey feel, it did not feel like we were staying in a hotel at all. The Country Squire is 'haunted' but we didn't see any ghosts or shadow people. =) Then the package included tickets to 2 local museums. We only got to go to 1 of them because we had such an interesting tour with the lady doing the tour that we took up so much time asking questions and her devoting her afternoon to walking us around and answering all of our questions. Then we went back to the Country Squire and did our wine test tasting with our package. It was amazing! The gentleman took so much time to get to know us and our wine preferences...and then he took just as much time explaining each wine. We ended walking out with 5 wines but could have walked out with many more because they were very good! Then we had a nice romantic dinner (the gentleman that did our wine tasting even reserved us the best table that overlooked the court yard). The french onion soup was incredible! The cheese appetizer they bring out to start with was delicious as well. The dinners we had were within our $40 dinner credit that was included with the package so we did not have to put out any $ for dinner. The bed was very comfy and the fact that the windows had shutters on them instead of blinds made it where we could sleep in and not be woken up by the sunlight. Those little things all made such an impression on us. We cannot wait to go again in the summer when the grapes are on the vines. I would absolutely recommend the Country Squire and have already told SEVERAL family and friends that they need to go! This is definitely a hidden jewel!

The Mother Vine

Reviewed By cryoung2 - Charleston, United States

This massive vine is relatively easy to find on Roanoke Island. Go into Matteo and drive toward the Aquarium and Airport and Mother vineyard Road is near the Airport on the opposite side of the road. Drive down Mother Vinyard Road approximately 3/4 mile and look for a home made sign announcing the vine. There are two houses with the vine between them and the first house you come to has a separate parking area for the vine. Very impressive piece of history.
