Top 10 Transportation in Ciutat Vella (Old Town), Catalonia

December 6, 2021 Rosalyn Ihle

Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.

This review is to warn travellers arriving in Barcelona from a ferry. It does not reflect on this ferry service or its service. In October my wife and myself arrived in Barcelona from the overnight ferry from Rome. We drove for a little while and were in the centre when simultaneously the dashboard indicator showed a tyre was deflating and a man on a scooter knocked on our car window to tell us about the flat tyre. We pulled over to the kerb and parked. The tyre was completely flat and the man said he knew a mechanic. While he was distracting us, his criminal accomplice got into our car and stole two bags. The valuable bags contained our passports, licenses, cash, cards, jewellery, tickets and other valuable items. The theft was fast, slick and conducted to a plan. The criminals probably followed us from the port and chose the best place for them to enact the crime. The rear tyre was slashed by a sharp knife while we were stationary at traffic lights. We were left with a ruined tyre in the centre of Barcelona at 7pm. By luck, we found a replacement but we could easily have had to abandon the car in a strange location and find a hotel to wait until the morning without the passports and items we needed. My advice is to get out of Barcelona fast or park in a secure car park and walk because driving around Barcelona is a risk and it is impossible to prevent the tyre slashing because you have to stop at lights and crossroads.

Port Cable Car

Reviewed By pparrothead - Wilmington, United States

My wife and I recently visited Barcelona, Spain for the first time. The Teleferico del Puerto was listed on Tripadvisor for Things To Do and we took their advice from the reviews. We took the Metro down to the port area from where our hotel was and walked down to the beach and then to the Teleferico del Puerto Tower where the cable cars leave from. We purchased our two round trip tickets and waited for the elevator to go up to the waiting area. We had about a fifteen to twenty minute wait which was good. The cable cars are small and get filled up fast so my advice is to try and get a good window spot as soon as you get in... The views from the cable car were amazing and the ride was fun. When we got to the other side of the line decided to visit the outdoor bar that had a great view of Barcelona...It is an excellent spot for an Estrella Damm, glass of wine, or SanGria .. . The Teleferico del Puerto was a great choice and we would both recommend it to anyone looking for some fantastic views of Barcelona, the skyline and its harbor...
