This good value system takes you near vertically up to the Bastille fortification with a small museum and two good restaurants Excellent views over Grenoble and you can just glimpse Mont Blanc over the mountains to your back A good experience is to ride up, indulge in good food looking out over the city and then walk the winding trail back down.

Telepherique des Glaciers de la Meije - SATG

Off Piste - Experience you are not in a typical ski resort...By exploring the domain of La Grave-La Meije, you are not in a typical ski resort. This is a real mountain environment as you head down in an unmarked, and non-patrolled area at your own risk. You must be aware of all mountain hazards including rocks, avalanches, crevasses, and be ready for the possibility of drastic weather changes. In 30 minutes, the cable-car (téléphérique) takes you to 3200m, where you can create your own itinerary for the descent. You can choose from vast glacial escapes to steep chutes, a world away from the marked trails, the ropes, and the signs of a ski resort. Let your skill level and your inspirations guide you.

If you are staying in St Gervais taking the tram up to ski Les Houches is just a delightful experience. The cost is included in your ski pass. Highly recommended.

Grenoble-Bastille Cable Car

Reviewed By antoniomM6608WI - Copenhagen, Denmark

Grenoble is famous because of many things. The city was hosting Olympic games in 1968. This has been also a strategic city in France throughout hundreds of years. Take a panoramic ride in one of the round cable cars up to the hill where the famous Bastille is situated - you won't regret it. Besides spectacular views, there is a museum inside the Bastille where you can learn a bit about history of the city and "see" french warriors as well as french resistance in the Alps. I highly recommend. Outside of the Bastille, you can take an easy hike uphill as well as explore a tunnel or grots.

The new telecabine is great. The cabins are spacious and the views on the way up and down over lac Léman are superb. The area is a walkers paradise and although a hidden gem we’ve never found it so busy we have to wait long for a cabin.

La Flegere

ENJOY THE MOUNTAINS! From the Index, admire the view of the Mer de Glace, the Argentiere and le Tour glaciers. Also discover superb lakes (Lac Blanc, Lac des Cheserys...) and beautiful hikes in the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve!

Reviewed By DavidTeesValley

We took the cable car to Flegere and onward chair lift to l'Index before walking back to Chamonix. The Mont Blanc pass is useful giving access over a number of days although for us personally it may have been better just to have the option of a combination of lift trips to accommodate the hiking in between. The views from whichever side of the valley are simply stunning
