Funky Tours arranged several excellent tours while I was based in Bosnia (one or two which were free of charge) between October 2020 and March 2021. This included a food and drink tasting tour, the siege of Sarajevo tour, a day trip to Jajce and Travnik, a day trip to the Srebrenica genocide memorial centre, as well as one to Herzegovina which included stops in Mostar, Medugorje and Pocitelj. Each tour was outstanding and the tour guides, having lived through the events you learn about on the tours, are fascinating people to spend a day with (a big thanks in particular to Taib). I learned so much about Bosnia, past and present, from them.    Booking the tours was always made easy and they even arranged a customised tour of the famous Sarajevo City Hall which included a visit to a replica ICTY courtroom (a big thanks in particular to Ema). I learned so much about Bosnia on each tour - from what it was like living through the war to finding out about the Bosnia of today.  Even although some of the events they cover are difficult for a visitor to comprehend (partly because the country has been largely rebuilt), you come away from it realising how relevant Bosnia's history is to the world we live in today. I was lucky enough to see first hand so many of the great things about the country - its diverse landscapes and stunning views across several towns and cities (especially Sarajevo), how much the country has been rebuilt in the last 20 years (it would not be fair to class Bosnia as 'war torn' any longer), the wonderful mix of architecture and traditions, its excellent local cuisine and of course the down to earth and wonderfully hospitable Bosnian people who are always welcoming of visitors. Bosnians are rightfully keen to show that their country has so much more to it than the war that ended there more than 25 years ago. Having been on several tours I feel like I am just about an expert on all things Bosnia and Herzegovina. I absolutely recommend Funky Tours - in fact I cannot recommend them highly enough. Bosnia is a great country to explore and because of its offering which includes Olympic ski slopes near Sarajevo and vineyards in Herzegovina it can be considered as both a winter and summer destination. The main thing is to make sure you go there at some point - and use Funky Tours to show you around! (the tours I went on were always carried out within covid restrictions, in a small group or one to one)

In 1984 Sarajevo was hosting 14th Olympic Winter Games. It was the event which marked Sarajevo for the time of being and the moment when Sarajevo was the center of the world. Mountains that surround Sarajevo were in perfect fit in order to host Olympic Games. The period of organizing Olympic games was the period that changed Sarajevo forever in terms of constructions. New neighborhoods, buildings, city blogs and even new villages arose in the same period to host the athletes and guests. Visiting Olympic points will make you go back in the time when Sarajevo had eyes of whole world focused. Fresh air, thick wood, Olympic stories and the beauty of green color all around will offer great relaxation for your body and your soul. Do not miss the chance to meet Olympic Sarajevo! For this tour you can choose to visit either Igman and Bjelasnica, or Trebevic and Jahorina. We give you opportunity to make your own plan for the Olympic mountain tour. The tour is ideal for a family.

Inclusions: Driver/guide, Professional guide, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Transport by private vehicle of minivan

Exclusions: Food and drinks, Cable car ride on Bjelasnica mountain - 7€ per person - optional

We warmly suggest to take this tour on in order to consciously experience the Bosnian capital, to understand its distinctive architecture along with its welcoming people. Ms Dzenana guided us through the memories of Sarajevo in a two-days-trip that we will remember forever...There's nothing better than studying a heart-breaking past while looking at the beautiful contradictions of this small cosy city. We appreciated Dzenana' selection of highlights, the wise alternance of didactical moments and relax at cafes, her enthusiast attitude and her accuracy.

Lukomir is the highest and most isolated village in Bosnia. This hike is also the most popular hike in the country. And for a good reason. It offers all: amazing views, long walks, culture, history and legends. This is the most popular one day trip from Sarajevo. We start our tour on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica mountain, from medieval Umoljani village. We will make a short stop on ancient necropolis at Dolovi, and then continue towards Umoljani. We will then pass through Gradina - highland summer village, and go to Studeni Potok stream. On the way, we will visit 40-meter Peruće Waterfall before continuing to Lukomir. Our last stop - Lukomir village. It lives the same life for more than 600 years, Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village. On the edge of the village you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Rakitnica Canyon. We will have traditional homemade lunch prepared by our hosts. You will also have the opportunity to purchase local handcrafts

Inclusions: Hiking sticks, Fantastic Bosnian traditional, home-made, freshly cooked lunch by locals in Lukomir. (Available options: halal, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free), Trail mix on the trail., Coffee and/or Tea, Air-conditioned vehicle, Private transportation

Exclusions: Alcoholic Beverages

7. Magnificent Olympic Mountain Tour

NowBosnia

Olympic skiing, NO! But we will venture up that way, start at the Marshal Hotel, and disappear into the forests next to the ski slopes. We’ll hike around the eastern ridge to the open valley on the opposite side of Bjelašnica’s highest peak. Above the valley of Stirna lokva we’ll have a phenomenal view of Treskavica and Visočica Mountains and if it’s a clear blue-skied day one can see the mountains towering from the Montenegrin border.
