Upon arriving to Saranda I knew I wanted to see more of the other locations outside of the general area. So, in loving the fine folks at Tea Tours, I opted to take a tour to Qeparo and Himara. I mean, you can't go wrong. An ancient village, reminiscent of what some movies are made of and the beautiful beach in Himara to enjoy after perusing Qeparo. And, Qeparo itself, set upon the top of a mountain, truly has some incredible photo opportunities to discover and capture. And the village, while barely inhabited by the locals, also has many opportunities to snap a great architectural photo. I do hope to tour a little more with Tea Tours, as everyone there is truly helpful, and kind. And, the guide, fantastic!

Kakome Bay is located on the Ionian Coast, west of the village of Nivica, between cape of Qefali and Akroriza beach. is one of the quietest beaches along the coast, it can be accessed by car, but it is more beautiful by boat. Here lies the sandy beach of Kakome, one of the most beautiful stretches of unspoilt beach that can be found on the Albanian coast. The bay used to be home to an army base and access might be limited during some periods. It has a fine white sand and gravel; the variation of blue sea and the surrounding greenery make it a true paradise. St. Mary's Monastery rises above the hill in the interior part of Kakome Bay, far from the inhabited center.. The position of the monastery and the architectural - constructive level of the remaining buildings testify to its importance and values. The monastery complex consists of churches, towers and a two-storey building used for service facilities.

It should be noted that the thermal springs are not hot springs. I was surprised when I felt the cool water. Also, the algae has made footing extremely slippery so be careful.

Leaving the mainland again, we pass small picturesque villages and endless fertile plains that lead to a great lake. It was amazing day just for 25 euros per person. Captain Spyros took us from Agios Gordios and drived us to Gouvia by his car telling nice stories about villages we passed. The boat was big and nice and Spyros was the best part of it. He was joking, singins, dancing, talking to everyone and making food. The food was very tasty, and free coffe, biscuits and free wine all the day. The three places we stopped were very nice especially this wild beahh near the lake.

7. PEARLS OF SOUTHERN ALBANIA (6 nights) by ADRIATIK TOURS LLC

Luxury Adriatik Hotel & SPA, Plazh, Rruga Pavaresia, Durrës 2000, Albania Adriatik Tours

Closed to outsiders for much of the 20th century, Albania has long been Mediterranean Europe's enigma. Until fairly recently its rumpled mountains, fortress towns and sparkling beaches were merely a rumour on most travel maps. But, with the end of a particularly brutal strain of communism in 1991, Albania tentatively swung open its gates. The first curious tourists to arrive discovered a land where ancient codes of conduct still held sway and where the wind whistled through the shattered remnants of half-forgotten Ancient Greek and Roman sites. Quarter of a century after throwing off the shackles of communism, Albania's stunning mountain scenery, crumbling castles, boisterous capital and dreamy beaches rivalling any in the Mediterranean continue to enchant, but hurry here because as word gets out to what Albania is hiding, the still tiny trickle of tourists threatens to become a flood.

History buff hubby and I booked a custom tour. Our guide was amazing. She stuck through us making long videos, hiking, long drives and rain. She was so interested in history and really helped with information for his history videos. We went to gjorkastra, Antigonea and the thermal baths all in one day. With my husband's love for history this probably needed two days. However our guide was always enthusiastic and a real trooper. The driver drove flawlessly though heavy rain and dark. Not to mention lunch/dinner at a local spot was fantastic. I'd highly recommend the guides are fun and professional. This is the second time we've used this company. First was a transfer from triana to sarande also great experience. Thank you so so much for your long hours and patience. Vanessa and Ray
