We visited on the recommendation of another wine host at a high end winery, and wow - what a great experience! This is a small production winery, but that means great attention to some very special wines. For a small production winery there is quite a selection though - another caveat. For us, the cabs are the big stars, especially their Aero blend and Holly’s Block single vineyard cab. Superb! The property is easy to find and yet a bit off the beaten path. The views are stunning. The weather was a bit chilly during our visit, so we look forward to returning when we might be able to enjoy their lovely deck in front of ‘Holly’s Block.’ The atmosphere is laid back and the staff here not only enjoy wine but they know their stuff. Ari was our host today and he was fantastic. Well worth a visit - this is a special place with some very special wines. Since we joined the wine club we look forward to our first shipment.

While we were there Patrick, a long time generational wine expert gave us some history and geography of Napa Valley too. The tasting was generous and so delicious ! The Cigar wines were so good we bought at case! Excellent experience and so glad we joined their wine club!

Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley

Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley offers a unique lifestyle experience in wine country. Originally built in 1904 as a private residence, the manor is one of three stone buildings in Yountville, and one of only two listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As an art, design and wine gallery set amidst a contemporary, landscaped sculpture garden, Ma(i)sonry offers guests a respite and a retreat. Guests have a variety of choices for their wine tasting setting. They can enjoy the intimacy of one of our three private tasting rooms, lounge in either of the great rooms, or gather outdoors at individual and communal tables, around the fire pit, or while stretched out on a blanket on the lawn. The outdoor gardens are beautifully landscaped around architectural remnants and contemporary sculpture and are available for our clients to relax and enjoy a bite or a bottle of wine on their own before or after their tasting.

On our last trip to Napa, my wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Ma(i)sonry tasting room, which is now called RH Wine Vault and is part of Restoration Hardware’s campus in Yountville. We loved the chance to sample a variety of wines from small local producers, and since the tasting menu changes a few times each year, we were happy to come back and try new wines on this trip. I’m happy to report that this continues to be a great place to visit for wine tasting. One thing that initially attracted us to RH Wine Vault and brought us there again this time is that they have longer hours for tastings than just about any other tasting room in the area. RH Wine Vault closes at 8:00 pm, while most tasting rooms end tastings by 5:00 or soon thereafter. In this case, we were arriving from the airport in the afternoon and wanted to start off our vacation with some wine, but our arrival time was just slightly too late to make it to most wineries before they would close. A 5:30 reservation at RH Wine Vault was perfect to do a wine tasting before dinner. It’s also nice that you don’t have to do a full wine tasting here if you prefer not to. They have an interesting list of wine by the glass or bottle if you just want to stop by for a drink. We’ve only done full tasting flights, but would also enjoy stopping in for just a glass. All tastings are being held outside right now, which is great, because the outdoor portion of the property is beautiful, with gorgeous seating areas and landscaping, outdoor fireplaces, and twinkling chandeliers. RH Wine Vault was designed with taking advantage of the outdoors, so it’s a perfect outdoor venue for a wine tasting. When we arrived, the staff got us settled in and brought us a complimentary glass of champagne while we decided which of the three tasting experiences we wanted to do. The tastings come at three levels for a tasting of red wines: classic ($50), connoisseur ($75), and collector ($100), and tastings of whites are also available at the classic and connoisseur levels. We were only interested in tasting reds, and noted that the classic and connoisseur options are a bit more varied, while the collector tasting features only cabs. In all cases, the focus is on small, boutique wineries, which typically have very limited distribution and don’t have their own tasting rooms. We both went for the $75 red connoisseur tasting, which is the same tasting we did last time and really enjoyed. Our guide for the tasting was very nice, and he brought everything out quickly and got us nicely set up. They like to encourage you to taste the wines “blind” to see what you like, which essentially just means that they don’t like to provide tasting notes or really discuss the wines until after you’ve had a chance to try them all. However, when he came back after we had tried them, he was happy to go over more details of the wines, particularly the ones we really liked. The four wines we tasted were: 2018 RAEN Fort Ross Seaview Pinot Noir, 2016 Blackbird Vineyards Blackmail Cabernet Franc, 2017 DiConstanzo Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2017 Complant Cabernet Sauvignon. We didn’t love all four of the wines, but we could appreciate that they were all of a high quality. The RAEN pinot really stood out to us, so we took a couple bottles of that one home, and the Complant cab was our second favorite of the group. Tasting fees can be waived with wine purchases (I forget exactly how much you’re required to spend to waive each tasting fee). Two bottles of the RAEN pinot noir that we wanted to take home were just shy of whatever the threshold is, and they were strict with not allowing us to waive one of the tasting fees unless we spent a few more dollars to reach the limit. This was also the case last time we were there, and it’s a little annoying that they’re such sticklers on this. I understand if I’m far off from the amount needed to waive the fee, but it was such a small difference that it seemed stupid I needed to find another whole bottle to buy to make up the difference. We ended up deciding to buy one of their more affordable whites to add to our order, and it was nice that he offered us tastings of both the Spottswoode and Lail Vineyards sauvignon blancs that we were interested in before picking one to add to our order. Both were excellent, but we really loved the Spottswoode. By adding that to our order, we were able to have one of the $75 tasting fees waived. Just like the first time we visited, we were both very happy with our experience at RH Wine Vault and will come back to try other new wines in the future. The staff here is incredibly nice, and the space is beautiful, with a great variety of interesting wines from small producers. RH Wine Vault has stood out to us twice now as providing a great and unique tasting experience within the Napa Valley.

We spent a lovely afternoon at Cliff Lede with our incredible guide, Bob. This was one of the vineyards we were most looking forward to during our Napa trip, and it did not disappoint. We loved the relaxed atmosphere and the rock music that played throughout the patio, which was very distinctive in comparison to all the other vineyards we visited. If you visit, I highly recommend trying to ensure you can make an appointment with Bob. He made our afternoon extra-special, and was really the secret ingredient to our visit. Thank you Bob!

Girard Winery

Girard Winery began in 1975 as a dream of a father-son duo. The two shared a passion for high quality wines, a respect for the Valley's rich history and a pioneering spirit. 25 years later, another vintner with the same passion for winemaking and roots deep in the Napa Valley is continuing the Girard legacy. Our modern yet humble tasting room in the heart of Yountville showcases all of our authentically Napa wines. Our wines range from classic varietals like Cabernet Savignon and Chardonnay, to more unique offerings like Grenache, Viognier and our esteemed Mixed Blacks Field Blend. Stop by for a flight of our current releases or Mountain series Cabernet Sauvignon, or get a bottle to go before heading to one of Yountville's many fine dining establishments.

We were recommended to stop by for a tasting by our concierge at North Block, next door. We weren’t disappointed. The experience was lovely. Our host, Sarah, was both knowledgeable and personable, just the right balance of interacting while letting us savor the wines, and she made us feel welcome and relaxed. We especially loved the Mixed Black (Sarah intuited my being intrigued before I even articulated it) and the Petit Verdot. Bought a bottle, too, of the Viognier to pair with an upcoming Thai dinner, as per Sarah’s suggestion. Really happy we visited and will likely go visit their vineyard location up in Calistoga next time we’re up in the area. A very worthwhile tasting!

We've been to Hope & Grace several times and just joined their wine club on our last trip there -- because their wines are just so good and we really enjoy the tasting experience. Each time we've been to Hope & Grace, whether with friends or alone, we've had a wonderful experience and been treated so well. They really take the time to explain the wines, answer questions, and treat us to some things that aren't on the regular tasting menu. And their wines are fantastic! Somehow, they seem to disappear from our cellar more quickly than we realize - which is why we'll keep coming back to Hope & Grace.

While waiting for dinner reservations nearby, we stopped in here for a bottle of wine. What “grabbed” us and made us want to come in was the amazing décor (and we loved the Christmas decorations on the tractor out front too!) and the looks of that amazing glass cellar from the street as we drove by. As we arrived, they were preparing to close for the day, but they still took very nice care of us, allowing us to taste something we thought we’d enjoy and then selling us a bottle to enjoy from their beautiful patio out front. The one wine we did try, their Sauvignon Blanc was really nicely done! We took it to dinner with us and finished enjoying it there. We’ll definitely return and do more of a tasting of their other wines and would encourage others to stop in and give them a try as well!

You must be of legal drinking age to engage with us. Please enjoy responsibly. Domaine Chandon was the first winery to be established in the United States by a French wine and spirits producer, Moet Hennessy. Today, Chandon is America's leading sparkling wine producer, applying methode traditionnelle techniques to showcase the ripe fruit and vibrant character of California. We host educational and fun tours of our winery and offer light food options in our tasting room or on our extensive terrace.

Big production wineries can be a bit intimidating if you’re not into big crowds. Chandon has figured out how to appeal to both the folks who like the big box experience as well as those who want something a little more intimate. Since we like fun experiences the mixology class really appealed to us - and it was really fun! Our host, Marcos, was very engaging and guided the group (about 12 people in total) through the creation of three different cocktails, utilizing three different sparkling wines (brut, sparkling rose, and blanc de noir). We felt as though we learned a lot from him - he knows the different varietals really well and also his mixology! As we were leaving we asked him to help us to select some bottles to ship home, and he encouraged us to taste a few more - that resulted in us shipping home a case! This was a REALLY fun experience which I highly recommend. Whether you’re getting ready to host a celebration or are wanting to add to your cocktail recipe collection, it’s worth making a reservation.
