Though I must admit I love strolling the streets of Winter Park, a detour to visit the delightful Charles Hosmer Morse Museum is a delightful way to spend a couple of hours surrounded by exquisite Tiffany creations [and is also a nice air conditioned respite].

We didn’t know much about Albin Polasek before this visit. We discovered that he was an accomplished sculptor, artist and much more. His legacy is alive and thriving at this museum. The grounds are peaceful and dotted amongst the beautiful surroundings are his magnificent sculptures. Our docent Denise, was informative and truly admires the man and his works. She told us many stories about the man and the pieces in his collection, so that his interesting life came alive thanks to her commentary. This was the first trip to a local museum we went to in over a year, because of the pandemic. It was delightful and worth the wait!

What a pleasure and pleasant surprise we found a full service place to eat for a fraction of the cost to dine off campus! After our wonderful 1-hour scenic boat tour, we decided to head towards campus for a walking tour of Rollins. The tour guide mentioned the campus had shown up on the Princeton review as one of the most beautiful campuses, so of course I wanted to check it out for myself. Our guide also mentioned the schools’ cafeteria was open to the public as well! The campus was indeed beautiful and you could have a fantastic meal on a beautiful patio overlooking the lake! If you’re ever in the area or you’re doing a scenic boat tour make sure you add the Rollins campus walking tour and cafe to you must-see list! Food, customer service and views were all A-1! Also, check-out the rows of rocks ...

Beautiful, beautiful place. Our daughter just got married here last week. She did all the arrangements over the phone, since we live in Indiana. We were over the top pleased with the beautiful place. All the cypress trees, the moss, the lake, the white egrets were just starting to gather in the trees for mating season. Not much parking space.

This was our first time to visit it. Our dog loves to retrieve a ball especially in the water so this is the only one in the area where your dog can”swim”. Unfortunately not everyone is diligent to pick up after their dog:( there are a couple of stations to wash your dog after playing. This is a nice large park and we didn’t experience any aggressive dogs.

Mead Garden

This 45 acre natural Botanical Garden is set next to a lake in an urban area. It's worth a stop if you are driving by. To their credit, they are restoring some of the area near the lake back to all native plants and removing the non-native invasive trees which is no small task to tackle. Some beautiful dirt paths that lead past the stream encourage you to wander around the garden, And what looks like a new wooden pathway will take you over the marshy areas where we sighted lots of birds. There is no entrance fee to get in, lots of free parking with picnic tables and clean bathrooms near the parking lot. This is not one of those over-engineered botanical gardens, but a natural setting hoping to bring back some wildlife habitat to an otherwise overdeveloped area. You can walk the entire area in about an hour.
