Took my 15-yr. old granddaughter for a new adventure for both of us. I love to fish but have never done deep sea fishing by boat--I can get seasick easily. Since this fishing adventure was kid-focused, I didn't think I would have any problems. We did go far out but was not sick at all. We all caught fish; 7 each for granddaughter and I. Great experience for all.

Devil's Purse Brewing Co

Reviewed By HaverhillJim - Haverhill, Massachusetts

Kolsch, ESB, and Session were very good. Funk was awesome. Our trio of hop heads did not dig the IPA nor pale ale - maybe we've been too spoiled with other New England IPAs (Sip of Sunshine, Heady, Trillium, Leatherlips, Harpoon, Tributary, etc.) Maybe the tap lines were a little dirty; those beers just didn't taste good. It was a muddy, off flavor that created a distracting aftertaste. But of course, you should make your own opinion on this.

It's located in an industrial park like Mayflower or From The Barrel Brewing, cute tasting room just a few feet from the fermenters. The decor and bar in the tasting room was very cool, a little industrial, a little craftsman with great signs/posters on the walls. But you are essentially standing in a garage / warehouse.

We went early in the season and it was still pretty crowded (20+ people), we were getting pushed out the door by groups of college kids - and then brewery staff scolded us for stepping one foot outside the open garage door. It must be a violation of a local code or something.

The one guy working in the brewery was very nice, one server was also very pleasant, the other server was constantly distracted on her cell phone. Sadly, that's the server that put together our "to go" order and accidentally gave us Pale Ale instead of Session. Very disappointed when we got home. It tasted a little better from the can, but not much.

Anyway, this is a great thing to do if you are in the area. It's always good to support local beer, and I look forward to more good things from these guys as they expand. A restroom and outdoor seating would be awesome.

Cape Cod Lavender Farm

Reviewed By Taylor B - Chicago, Illinois

My wife and I aren't gardeners--we live on the eighth floor of a condominium in downtown Chicago--but we love to have fresh flowers in our home, especially lillies, so when someone suggested that we stop at the Cape Cod Lavender Farm during our visit to this Massachusetts wonderland...well, we figured it might be a refreshing way to spend a summer afternoon. It was. On a patch of land overlooking Island Pond in Harwich on the lower Cape, on Island Pond Trail off Weston Woods Road, owner Cynthia Sutphin planted 400 lavender plants in the early 1990s. Today, her family runs one of the largest lavender farms on the East Coast with more than 14,000 plants in seemingly endless varieties. We were introduced to Grosso, a French favorite with a strong scent, Hidcote pink, which smells like peaches, and Harwich Blue, a dark indigo hybrid developed on the farm. You can buy individual potted plants, fresh-picked bouquets to dry and all sorts of products sprung from the farm's bounty, including Sachets, handmade skincare products and even edibles, like the very popular Lavender-Lemon Marmalade. Trust me, lavender jelly is treat that rivals raspberry, strawberry and blueberry. For relaxation, take a stroll through the fields and marvel at aisle after aisle of blue-grey-purple mounds and scent, lavender mingling with the salty breeze off Cape Cod. We missed the celebrated June/July harvest but the gift shop offers a wide-ranging variety of uses for lavender, from food and drink (did I mention that lavender lemonade is a real treat?) to body and home with lavender bath salts, lavender essential oil, lavender body butter, candles, soaps and washes. Then relax in the shade garden with plantings around a miniature stone replica of a medieval castle. Visiting Cape Cod Lavender Farm is a unique experience. Have you ever been to a lavender farm?

This cycle center is just a stop off the rail trail and I have stopped in a few time to top off my air and browse in the shop. I bring my bike in every year for a tune up. I have owned my current bike for 17 years and it is as good as new. I am offered good advice and have made several purchases.
