Goose Creek State Park

We hiked through the wetlands on a well cared for board walk. Then we hiked through a tall pine trail. The trails were well marked and maintained. The education center was informative and air conditioned which was inviting after a hot hike. Don't forget mosquito repellent!

Riverwalk Gallery

Reviewed By Lawrence B - Greenville, North Carolina

Riverwalk is a coop art gallery featuring the works of some 17 highly accomplished artists in many media. Painting, stained glass, pottery, jewelry and more are all there. The gallery is in an old turn of the century storefront with lots of ambiance just across the street from the restored Turnage Theater. One of the member artists is always there to host you through the selections. I enjoy their periodic receptions, and just browsing the works displayed there.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church

Known for its cemetery where Cecil B. DeMilles's relatives are buried.

Reviewed By Karen B - Durham, North Carolina

Located down the block from the NC Historic Site in Bath, this historic brick church is open during the day for visitors. We enjoyed walking the level grounds, viewing a stone bust mounted on balast rocks, and the angel and cherub grave markers. The inviting sanctuary allowed us to have a few moments of quiet reflection and prayer during our visit to Bath. There are state historic markers in the area to explain the significance of this location.

Little Washington Visitors Center

Reviewed By cheryl h - Durham, North Carolina

If I was rating the view, it would have been a solid 5 stars. The visitor center is the smallest one we have ever been to. The people were helpful once we asked for help but they didn't offer it as we walked in. The best part about the center is the view from the back of the Pamlico River and riverwalk. It's also within walking distance (if you don't want to give up your parking space) of shopping, antique shops, and the Estuarium.

We are interested in collectibles and this place really didn't have any. They do have painted furniture, vintage linens, and new home decor and crafty items. The people were nice and greeted us as we entered the store. It's worth a stop if you are already antiquing in Little Washington.

Anything you buy here goes to support Ruth's House (a safe shelter for those fleeing an abusive relationship). It's a very tiny place and even even though we didn't find anything you should check it out (no junk here). The items they have are very nice and the people are very nice.

South Market Antiques

Reviewed By cheryl h - Durham, North Carolina

The first thing I noticed walking in was the narrow aisles were completed blocked by people waiting at the cash register....you had to push your way through. Then looking around more I noticed how much merchandise was crammed into most of the booths. Some of the aisles were so narrow when a person was stopped to look at something you had to turn around and go the other way or risk knocking something over trying to squeeze past them. I found it very claustrophobic.

They offer furniture, glass, pottery, jewelry, candles, primitives, collectibles, antiques, as well as new items. It really didn't feel like an antique store to me due to all the new crafty-type items. We entered through the back and left through the front as fast as we could. I may have been able to find something I liked but it wasn't worth it to me.

As we walked in we were greeted with big smiles and hellos. The place is mostly furniture and new items with basically no vintage collectibles. I did see a monkey chandelier that I really wanted for our dining room but my husband just laughed at me. I have unusual taste and really did want it. Maybe it will still be there if I keep working on him.

10. The Contemporary Art Exchange

127 E Main St, Washington, NC 27889-4927 +1 252-721-2753

A great place to purchase affordable contemporar art. This funky downtown gallery resides in a rehabbed historical property just past Market st. Exposed brick walls and original fireplaces are a great stage for a continually rotating exhibit of modern art by primarily southern artists. Future plans include a fully landscaped patio designed for leisure as well as a wine and craft beer menu.
