Top 10 Things to do in Victoria, Seychelles

August 1, 2017 Terina Blouin

A day on foot is ample time to see Victoria, one of the smallest capitals in the world. Located on Mahe, one of the Seychelles' 115 granite and coral islands, Victoria is the republic's business and cultural hub. At its center sits the Victoria Clocktower, a national monument reminiscent of London's "Big Ben" that has kept ticking since 1903, unaffected by the modern glass and concrete development around it. Visit the local art galleries and craft markets to soak up the city's friendly charm.

Gerry and team know the fishing spots around Conception Island like the back of his hand. We always have had a decent catch when going out with him. Boat and tackle are in great condition. The beach BBQ absolutely fantastic.
No problem with younger children, so long as the ocean is calm enough for them to handle. My daughter (7) caught her first Wahoo with Gerry and my son (6) also landed a nice bonito.
Definitely worth it. Again again and again!!

Nice enough beach, been twice, both times to anchor in the bay and both times it's been cloudy and wet.
The spire like Mountains behind the bay seem to attract clouds, I've never seen them without their cloudy caps.
It's certainly a pleasant place to spend a few hours.

Copolia Trail

Reviewed By 113alin - London, United Kingdom

The road up to Copolia is very windy. It was quite rainy the first day we tried to get there, so we decided against going. We went the next day.
There is no real parking for the trail, when we went, there were around three cars parked near the start of the trail. No bathroom facilities. We did not see the map of the route before going as we parked further along the road I guess.
The trail is nice, and it can get quite steep. It took as an hour to get to the top as we got lost on the way! We went all the way to the place where there is a left arrow on the board. We turned left, however we did not realise that there is ANOTHER STEEP LEFT TURN that goes directly up!!! Instead we carried on going straight. There was an 'x' marked on the rock, telling people to stop, the 'x' was very faded so we didn't spot it. It was quite dangerous as we tried clambering over rocks, after 10 or so minutes we realised there was no safe way forward! We luckily managed to find our way back, and realised the correct route. The top of the trail is an expansive area where you have a panoramic view over the island, on top of a giant granite flat boulder.

Not much to see of structures except the remains of buildings that existed during the slave period of Seychelles. What is worth the twisting and steep highway journey to the top is the view of the valley below and the Mountains surrounding the . There are even a gazebo and a number of 3 person benches to sit on to take in the view southward across Mahe. Queen Elizabeth II was reported to have enjoyed a cup of tea from the vista point.

Seychelles Public Transport Corporation

The buses are a very cheap (5SR/sector) way to travel compared to the expensive taxis. The rides on the winding rooads can be quite exiting. Some buses are a little overcrowed and then you will have to stand. The drivers sometimes cheat the company by taking your money but not giving you a receipt which locals always get.
