Lac du Mont-Cenis

Reviewed By Trevor B - Sittingbourne, United Kingdom

Travelling from France to Italy we decided to take the mountain pass rather than the tunnel. the road up and down the mountain was great with horseshoe bends ever rising to the mountain top both sides. This time it was made even more memorable by having to drive around the cows being moved up the road to higher pastures, a once in a lifetime experience. Once at the top you can stop by the café and the pyramid and admire the views of the lake and the Mountains. both on the sides of the Mountains and in the lake you can see fortifications from history that showed how important this road was throughout history, A lovely drive and breathtaking views.

Site très pittoresque, avec la visite de forts Marie-Christine ou Victor-Emmanuel et une vue splendide des montagnes.
Point de départ de balades avec des sentiers très accessibles et des via-ferrata de différents niveaux.
Natural and historical place where you can both have a sympathic walk even with family and test or practise via ferrata.
There is also a gastronomic restaurant in Marie-Christine "Fort" with reasonable prices.
I recommend this place for people who enjoy nature and sport !
And all is free !

Office de Tourisme de Val Cenis Lanslevillard

As we usually do when staying in one place for a while, we had a quick visit to the local tourism office. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, we got the info we needed in about 3 minutes: suitable walks, a map of the environment, a newspaper with events and activities during our stay and some info regarding nearby grocery stores. Clear, friendly and obviously well routined. Great!

A stunning place to visit, a very friendly village, almost everyone was extremely helpful. The walks and the views are outstanding. Take the cable car up the mountain to the station June to September. Walk into the Vanoise National Park. It's a the very end of a long valley so not much traffic which makes it ideal for bikes too.

Maurienne ULM took me for an amazing flight over the valley. With a small plane you go straight over the treetops and get an magnificant flight feeling, almost as if you fly yourself. You can see skiers and hikers right under you, and with that nice scenery it's really a thing to do if you are in the area. It dosen't take a long time and it's really an experience.

Col du Mont-Cenis

The Col du Mont-Cenis featured in a trail race I was running in, so my passage here was rather "serendipitous". The view was amazing, worth sacrificing a minute or two of race time to take some lovely photos.
Note: you've got to be pretty fit to make the hike, and it's probably not a good idea for people travelling with young kids or those with limited mobility.
