Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe

Reviewed By Onleaveagain - Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom

Excellent church located in the centre of Teguise with a large square in front. This church probably gets overlooked when the Sunday market is on but it is well worth a visit on any other day. Lovely small church with impressive internal features. A nice place to visit on a hot day as cool inside.

Castillo de Santa Barbara

Reviewed By Michael T - Leeds, United Kingdom

On the outskirts of Teguise it can be reached on foot or by driving.
It tells the story of piracy, mainly through posters in both Spanish and English, though there are also video presentations in both languages. It was interesting to learn the names of various pirates. I thought it could benefit from having displays of the weaponry that the pirates used, and perhaps models of pirates.
It’s only 3€, so it’s not going to break the bank, but it could be a bit better.
You do get good views over Teguise from it, but you don't have to go in to get those views

Stumbled upon an extensive exhibition of local artists by complete accident. Wonderful building, stunning inside good use of space. Free entry and opportunity to buy works. Unfortunately my Spanish isn't good enough to translate the descriptions of works, but it didn't detract from the experience.

Thank you Gilles for a brilliant tour lasting from 8 am. until about 4:30 p.m. including transfers, ferry crossing, light refreshments and lunch and a personal guide. Brilliant value and a great experience. We were staying at Casa Dominique on a walking holiday and read the brochure over breakfast. A visit to Isla La Graciosa was on our list so the Prospect of an all inclusive guided tour was attractive. This is a small company where the personal attention of its founders is all part of the service and what an excellent service that is. Our requirements did not challenge the talents of our guide and co-owner Gilles who is a registered mountain guide. Collected from the hotel, driven to Orzola, on to the ferry to La Graciosa. After a 30 minute crossing we arrive at the only village where the walk starts learning much about the history of the village and the island on the walk. An interesting 7 or 8 kilometre walk with lots of information about history, geology and nature. A pause for water and dried fruits and nuts and then an exciting passage across the bottom of a cliff face above the sea. Then a swim and some fresh fruit. Siggy arrives in his wonderful old land rover to take us across the dunes to Los Arcos past beautiful bays and then across the island to the most beautiful beach in the Canaries. Back to the village for a delicious and generous lunch of typical fresh fish and cheese. back on the ferry and then to the hotel, Seamless, trouble free and delightful.

Las Salinas

On our round island tour in the hire car we found the salt flats of Teguise by accident. The views are very intriguing and the restaurant we pulled in to to view the Panorama had a great balcony. I can only imagine how much hard work it must have been to work on the flats in the heat of summer. Well worth going to see.

Teguise Market

Reviewed By Tiggerwilde - Highbridge, United Kingdom

As many other reviewers state there are many repetitive stalls selling fake clothing, watches, handbags, sunglasses but interspersed in these are some genuine stalls offering artesian items, some nice jewellery, handcrafts, pottery, sculpture pieces etc so with it for these. There are also many other permanent shops offering good quality and unique items. There are the usual fast food/snack stalls but also other restaurants/cafes offering a mix of food and drink. An old church at the centre of an old town with unique buildings with musicians dotted throughout and also some traditional dancing on the main square. Very busy, bus from Costa Teguise was €2.50 each way, taxi about €20. Be prepared to queue for the bus. If driving there are a number of place on the way into town all under €2. Would go back for the unique sellers but not the usual market tat which is a shame.

Museo de la Pirateria

Reviewed By Lewis S - Guildford, United Kingdom

A pirate museum, in a castle, on top of a volcano, amazing!
But on a serious note, this place is very interesting and very much worth a visit.
It sheds a lot of light on the history of the area. I think as a tourist it would be easy to look at Lanzarote solely as a sun and sea holiday island, but I walked away from here having learned a lot about the (often brutal) history of the island, and the local area, which made me look at it with renewed interest.
It was very interesting to go and visit the local town of Teguise (which you get a great view of from the roof of the castle) after the museum, and to walk about knowing the history.
Also, the panoramic view from the top of the castle is spectacular and you can see for miles.
And a bargain at 3 euros.
Ps there are toilets round the back of the castle, there's no signs suggesting they are, but they were!

I saw it when walking from Haría to Teguise, so I wasn't bothered that it was shut. You can drive to it as well. It's a sold looking building that is not particularly photographic. Probably, best to check with a tourist office on its opening hours if you really want to see inside.

We spent few hours in Teguise and enjoyed are walk in town. The church square is nice and the architecture inside the museum was very interesting. We also had good time looking at the guitars exhibition from all around the world.
They don't speak English though and have no doc or explanation in English on the display.
