Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve

Reviewed By susiedu - Kendal, United Kingdom

This is a lovely place with a very peaceful atmosphere. There are several trails going through different habitats that are very well marked and easy to walk. We only had time to walk one unfortunately as there are others we would have liked to do. We chose the Mosquito trail – for distance more than the mosquitos that were a little bothersome. Although we were too early for the migration of waterfowl we still enjoyed our visit and there were lots of plants and other animals to see. The Interpretive Centre is informative and has some live animals to look at as well as interesting displays about the Preserve. The staff we met were very helpful and friendly.

Something for everyone, whether a Packer fan or not. Great history of the team in the Packer Hall of Fame. And make sure you take the tour of the stadium if weather permits. Quite the experience! We've done the tour, and the Hall of Fame. And this past January had the opportunity to see a game. Nothing like it....a "to do" for sure on a Packer Fan's bucket list.

This is a very family-friendly destination, where kids can have plenty of fun on a variety of rides, without wearing out mom & dad with super-long lines, or tons of money for the day. Little ones, say under 6, will really find it incredible, while those up to 10 still have a blast, and the "big kids" will like the newer attractions like the Z.P....

This sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit even if you don't have children. They feature very educational displays about animals, insects, flowers, animal tracks and environmental surroundings. There is a cute slide that the kids love to slide down! Even a few adults! There is an educational gift shop and outside there is a walkway to a bridge where you will see varieties of ducks and Canadian geese. After you cross the bridge there is another center that features birds of prey as well as varieties of owls. There are many hiking trails and picnic areas. Parking is adequate.

National Railroad Museum

It's after all the National Train Museum. Rather small for that distinction. They have a lot of trains and some are refurbished. Those are fun to walk through. Others are outside and you can walk through them, but it's claustrophobic and I kept waiting for something to crawl out of the seating. (perfect mouse nest material) The train ride was just in a small circle on the grounds and was probably cool for a little kid, but for adult left something to be desired. My husband was disappointed too. Once there is enough. They do a lot with their funding being donations, but the name creates higher expectations.

As "seniors" (only in our 60's), we received a discount which made this a good deal. It was a cute zoo, decorated for Halloween. We got to see a number of animals and they seemed active and interested in seeing us as well. It was a great way to spend an hour to an hour and a half.
