Noticed this place as we drove on route 522. Laughed, but then stopped for a look. As others wrote a retro, kitschy place. Who would have thought a dinosaur exhibit in the Shenandoah Valley. Also a gift shop with plenty of dinosaur items.
Great Americana. Never know what we'll find once off the main highway.
Probably best for very young children as other kids (teens) will think the dinosaurs are dumb or boring.

Belle Grove is located in the northern Shenandoah Valley near Middletown, Virginia. It is an authentic 1797 Manor House, was built by Major Isaac Hite and his wife Nelly Madison Hite, sister of President James Madison. Major Hite, grandson of Shenandoah Valley Pioneer Jost Hite, expanded his original 483 acres to a prosperous 7500 acre plantation, growing wheat, raising cattle and Merino sheep, and operating a large distillery and several mills.

Old plantation that is complete with out buildings. Tours are available period furnishing throughout guides are very helpful with questions.

We are a classic 2 screen drive-in theatre, celebrating 60 years of movie memories "Under the Stars". We are the only drive-in theatre still operating in the Northern Va/DC/MD metro area. We offer classic car speakers, a playground for children, special events through out the season. Movies projected in High Definition Digital, stereo 5.1 surround sound if you use a car radio. Full service concession stand, offering hot meals to standard theater snacks. Double Feature movies of current or new movies are our standard offering, but we do triple and dusk to dawn shows as well. We are PET FRIENDLY-- so bring your dog(s) to the movies!

We took our Grandchildren to their first outdoor movie. The place is definitely family friendly. No alcohol is allowed. We bought food from their snack bar and the price was good and the food was good. You can use either the old time speakers to hang in the car or tune into FM radio. We opted to bring chairs and sit out for the show. Bring blankets as it does cool off at night but it is still a great experience. Highly recommended.

The docent, dressed in period clothing, presented us with the home's history and explained the artifacts in the rooms and cases. One of her accounts was the connection between Mary Tyler Moore and General Jackson. One of the actress's ancestors (great-great-grandfather, I think) owned the home during the war and offered Stonewall Jackson the use of the home during the winter of 1861-62. During his stay, the general wrote his wife, describing the bedroom's leaf-pattern wallpaper, which he admired. When, next century, a remnant of the wallpaper was discovered, Mary Tyler Moore payed to have it reproduced for the room's restoration.
The artifacts in the home include some of the home's furnishings the time of the general's stay; photos of the Jackson family; silver dishes belonging to General Ewell; and a wood-arch saddle (the only known surviving example of its type) belonging to Turner Ashby.

Shen-Val Farm is operated by the McDonald Family. They are a Virginia Century Farm with three generations currently living on the farm. Their farming operations cover Brown Swiss and Holstein dairy cattle, registered Angus cattle, a variety of flowers and potted herbs grown in the greenhouse, and vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, squash, cucumbers, spring onions, gourds, asparagus, and others. The fruit picked from their orchards includes apricots, nectarines, cherries, plums, several varieties of peaches and several varieties of apples.Also at the Shen-Val Farm Market, patrons can enjoy freshly baked muffins, cookies, breads, pies, cupcakes, and cakes. The best seller and something you must try is the coconut cream pie!

Beautiful pumpkins and squash, very friendly and helpful staff, and a nice selection of jams/jellies, canning and cooking mixes, and pickled vegetables. They also had delicious pies and tasty looking cakes. I really enjoyed my visit and can't wait to go back for another pie!

Visiting Valerie Hill was like visiting with old friends. My server was very friendly and I had a nice time talking with him. They had four whites, a rose and two reds to try. The owner was there chatting with someone he knew and mentioned Port which got me excited. He was excited that I was excited and opened a bottle without realizing there was already one open. The Port was fantastic and I happily left with a bottle.

Cedar creek and Belle grove is one of the more strange national parks sites I've visited. The actual visitor center is located in what looks like a strip mall in the rural town of Middletown Virginia, a few miles north of the actual battlefield sites. There is a ranger or volunteer on site to answer questions and give directions on how to get to the actual site. The battlefield is a very interesting thing to see. kind of small, but still interesting. Easy on/off access to interstate 81 which is located just a few miles to the east.

Old Town Winchester is a wonderful walking mall with restaurants and neat stores, surrounded by cool historic attractions like the Old Handley library. Like the courthouse and several other sites its free to go in. It has been upgraded but retains its original charm. Nearby metered parking is $.75/hour

Restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 until 8. Light fare is available on Mondays. Eight beers on tap at all times. Scratch kitchen uses farm grown herbs and produce. Family friendly and pet friendly. Indoor and outdoor dining. Greenhouses, gardens, labyrinth, corn hole, music, events.

Pretty big park and I love their pool, price is reasonable but don't go in the summers on Wednesdays. Too many kids, although I think that it is wonderful that another community near here buses kids in. Remember, subject to change -- but nice pool.
