Anyer Beach

Summaries :
* Anyer beach is located in Anyer, Serang, Banten, Indonesia. Anyer beach is not a single beach, but rather a collection of Beaches stretching along the area of Anyer itself.
* Generally Anyer is not too beautiful, crowded (especially in weekend and holiday), and dirty. A lot of garbage on Anyer beach :(
* Although this place is not too good does not mean no beautiful area here that can be captured by camera. If we visit this place in not crowded time (such as in the morning, working day, etc), we can capture some beautiful pictures here :)
* Beware of food stall (simple restaurant) around Anyer beach, they mark up the price too high, it'll screw you up! Just ask the price before buying/eating, if you wanna eat there, or you can eat in a further restaurants that have reasonable price.
* It's okay to visit Anyer beach if you want to, but don't expect too much about this beach or you'd disappointed. Personally, I don't recommend it for beach lover.

Great Mosque of Banten

Reviewed By Raymond W - Chengdu, China

Five hundred years ago, Jakarta was little more than a fishing village at Sunda Kelapa Harbour and the big town at the western end of Java was Banten. The Sultan of Banten controlled the Sunda Strait and grew fabulously rich off the Indian Ocean boat trade. At its peak, 1000 Chinese junks a year were sailing to Banten to buy pepper from the Sultan of Banten's extensive pepper plantations. Many of the visitors were from the Middle East and they eventually converted the Banten royal family to Islam. The product of this conversion was the Mesjid Agung of BAnten, with its white walls, atmospheric tombs of former kings and saints and its lighthouse-shaped minaret, which is now an icon of the province of Banten. Make sure you climb to the top for views of the mosque's tiered roof and the low-lying, swampy area generally.

Old Banten

Reviewed By Raymond W - Chengdu, China

At one point, around 500 years ago, Banten was one of the greatest cities of Southeast Asia, with 1000 junks arriving from China every year to buy Bantenese pepper. The Sultan of Banten controlled most of the western end of Java and the southern tip of Sumatra too, giving him control over the strategic and valuable Sunda Strait. All that came to an end with the arrival of European explorers and colonizers. By the 17th century the Dutch had flattened most of Old Banten and established their own entrepot 80 kms away in Jakarta.
So much for the history. Today Banten is a sleepy fishing village and pilgrimage site with an enormous fort, a ruined palace, a beautiful mosque, a Chinese temple and some old tombs and cannons to show for its hundreds of years of history. The Great Mosque with its lighthouse style minaret is the single most impressive site though we also greatly enjoyed the fort. This part of Java is incredibly hot in the middle of the day, so try and make a trip out here early in the morning.

If you are in the area please take the time to visit this place, although suffering major earthquake damage, and having been robbed for building materials, enough of this imposing structure remains to build a picture in the mind of the one time greatness of Banten.

Labuan Beach

Reviewed By Archangela - Jakarta

Last year, I went to Labuan Beach with my friends. We went by car. There are two alternatives route to get there. First, from Jakarta – Serang – Pandeglang – Labuan. Second, JakartaCilegon – Anyer-Carita – Labuan. We chose the 1st alternative. Normally, it takes 3.5 hours to get there. We left Jakarta at 10 am. Because one car of my friend’s was run out of petrol, we had to find gas station. We found the gas station after we had searched it for an hour. We also had to wait for 20 minutes before we continued our trip because the gas station was closed.
We arrived there at 2 pm. We stayed at Kharisma cottage for one night. The rate was quite cheap because my friend got discount up to 20% from normal rate, around IDR 900,000/night for one cottage. Kharisma named their cottage with fish names, such as Tenggiri, Pari, Goldfish, etc. We stayed at Mola cottage. It had 2 bed rooms. The cottage was not good but it was quite big and the view was beautiful. We could see the sea directly from our cottage. The hotel also provided a lot of facilities such as swimming pool, fishing area, golf, volley ball, karaoke, snorkeling & diving, banana boat, Alabama outbound, jet ski, mountain bicycle, barbeque and also children playground.
After we put our bags to the cottage, we started to explore the beach, took pictures, went swimming, collected the sea shell, played volley ball, etc. We also wait till afternoon to see sunset. It was very beautiful. At the night we played uno card till late. It was fun.
The next day, after we had breakfast, we were ready for banana boat.! We decided to ride two boats because there were too many for one boat. We saw a lot of Jelly fish in the sea when we went to the boat. I felt excited and worried as I can’t swim. At first, the boat run smoothly, but after a few minutes it became faster and faster. And my team became wild. They tried to swing the boat to the left and right. It was unforgettable when we fell off the boat, especially for my friend who has hydrophobia. She was shocked when she fell off. She cried and screamed even though she fell in shallow water. She was so terrified and she couldn’t speak. Need an hour to make her calm. Actually, she didn’t want to try, but we insisted her. It made us feel very guilty and we promise never do it again to her.
Overall I would say this is the best place to relax and go away from daily activities. I’d recommend this place. It’s more fun if you can go with your family and your friends. But if you go by car, please make sure that your car has enough petrol because it’s very difficult to find the gas station. And don’t forget to bring snacks and beverages too.
