About 10 miles south of Newport. Just by the roadside of Highway 101. Very easy and short hike to the beach. Significant weathering of the cliff side as compared to 5 years ago when I first visited. The path to the beach had been re-routed further inland and fences were added at the top of the cliff with obvious signs advising visitors of hazardous areas. The path down to the beach is now paved and fenced - much safer then before. Very relaxing stroll on the beach watching the wave pounding on the rocks.

Popped in here in the middle of exploring the town on a rainy day... We were greeted upon arrival and offered the opportunity to try a free piece of saltwater taffy of our choice...
They have a nice selection of regular and sugar-free chocolates, fudge, other candy choices, some silly gift items of a non-edible nature.... It was a nice experience.
The milk chocolate sea foam we both bought was YUMMY, the salted caramel I've saved for later, as hubby has the caramel pecan fudge he got....but they both look delish!!

Our second visit to this piece of paradise. The visitor centre was open this time with friendly volunteers to answer questions, point out the various birds in the area this time of the year. They have a few feeders, benches to sit on, binoculars to borrow and spotting scopes set up. We saw a number of different species of birds including a bald eagle and osprey nesting. The visitor centre is evolving from a private house into a nature centre. There are several hikes in this area as well as kayaking on the creek. We visited on a Sunday and there were few people there - very peaceful and special. We also visited Ona Beach across 101. This is a beautiful area to picnic by the Creek, walk on the trails and crossing the picturesque bridge to the beach area. Another path will take you to a beach with lots of driftwood; a good beach to explore.

This center was a combination interpretive center and visitor center. Lots of informational brochures on what to do in the area, maps and guides. There was a very friendly woman (not sure if staff or volunteer) who was extremely helpful answering our questions. Further into the room was the interpretive center which was the history of bridges in general and specifically the Alsea Bay Bridge. Lots of pictures, models, and a piece of the old bridge before modernization.
Large parking lot with a couple of picnic tables overlooking the bridge and the river. We had a picnic lunch and watched men fishing from shore. From here you can walk on the beach or go under the bridge.

We decided to check out the Hatfield Marine Science center on a cold, rainy February day. what a great place...for the entire family! The octopus was fascinating as it moved around the tank, the fresh water fish display and information was very interesting. Our almost 4 yr old granddaughter split her time between the sand box and the touch tanks. The sand box was engaging for adults, too...making mountains and valleys, making rain...not just fun for kiddos. The docent at the touch tank was patient and very pleasant, instructing on the correct way to touch the sea life in the tanks. She answered questions about the water (from the bay) and how the critters were fed. Display on tsunamis were also interesting. Most activities are interactive. Nice gift shop and the clerk there was helpful. Looks like there are new displays in the works. A well done educational facility. Donations are suggested ($5.00 per adult or $20.00 per family); the time we spent there was more than worth that. Easy access off Hwy 101 - good signage to point the way. Great for kids 3 and older and curious adults.

This is about the third time we have visited this beach. Relatively easy access to the beach but I would not say the path to the beach is handicap accessible. The beach must be very self cleaning as there never seems to the usual ocean debris on this nice sandy beach. I will always visit this beach when in the area. We walked our dogs on the beach for about an hour and looked for good shells. I am told that the beach is known to have agates. We have never found any. We will return!

Very nice visitor center filled with information and fun for the kids as well. We didn't go into the lighthouse. It was sold out for tours. We walked the deck and enjoyed the views.

Wow what a great beach for a morning walk ..Lots of sand dollars on the beach.Seals in the water close to the shore line..Tons of waterfowl /Ducks to watch. And ifyour luck the are Eagles in the area near the river were it goes into the ocean

Expect numerous shelves of beautiful glass art! Bob Meyer was in the shop preparing for a glass blowing demonstration when we visited. He and Vicki were easy to visit with. He gladly did a personalized mini-demo for us before we made our purchases. Words are inadequate to describe the multicolored wonderland you'll find yourself in. There is more than can be taken in on a short stop. The shop offers for sale items by Bob and other area glass blowers along with complimentary myrtlewood items like lamps by Lynn Lockwood. Be sure to use the restroom while you're there and notice the countertop and glasswork on the light fixture! As others have said shipping is available. The items we purchased were well packed for the long trip from Oregon to Texas and arrived safely.

Mostly pass this place at the wrong time, but timed it out for low tide and the tide pools here are great. Lots of mini crabs, anemones, mussels of all sizes. Plus, seals just off shore. Not so many starfish here -- if you want to see those head to Cape Perpetua. Not this trip, but a couple of years ago, got a beautiful sunset shot here. If the fog's not in, make sure to time the sunset for a great shot!
