Nice place with The Baths of S. Pedro do Sul. The river Vouga valley is luxuriant. Try the sweet specialities like Pastéis de Vouzela as well as, main course, the veal cooked in different ways but especially roasted à Moda de Lafões (Lafões way).

The best adventure company in Portugal. We Do descents canyoning, rafting, bike trips, sup activities and treks.

Although I participated only in a couple of trekking and 4WD rides within the Lafões Mountains, I can attest of Nomadas' thorough knowledge of the local traditions and amazing natural scenes therein.
The interaction with Nomadas has felt, at all times, reassuringly professional and skillful, without ever jeopardising the "expected" Portuguese hospitality. ;)
Having seen the areas where their more "adventurous" activities are carried out, I can not wait to check them out also, in particular knowing they have many years of experience there as well.
Bottom line: if you are into nature, open spaces, sensations, traditions,… you will be in good hands. Definitely worth the detour.

Stay overnight in Santa Comba Dao then do the trip one way, 50km downhill. I stayed at Casas Vale Martinho, a couple of km from the bike trail. I rented a bike from Peter, English speaking, Ecopista Comba Dao. When there are enough people, he organises a big taxi to take you to the uphill start of the trail, at Viseu, E23 for bike and taxi. Fabulous day ride, beautiful scenery, no people, no traffic. Take food as limited availability.

Bioparque

Reviewed By paulinha19 - Aveiro, Portugal

I’ve recently gone on a trip with some friends and colleagues to the Bioparque (natural park) of Pisão, Carvalhais, in S. Pedro do Sul, Portugal. When I got there, I thought I was in heaven. It’s a wonderful place not only for its lovely mountain scenery (Serra da Arada), varied fauna and flora species, but also for its peculiar Watermills and waterway system (aqueducts) - the water runs along on either carved tree logs or on stones down to the little mill houses. You can visit the mills down the hill, get inside and see them working. As there is plenty of water all over the mountain, you can see nice crystal clear water pools, Waterfalls and cascades splashing everywhere and you feel like jumping into the water for some refreshing time. I wondered why I haven’t been to that place before!
There’s a big swimming pool, a bar and a good restaurant (S. Tiago) where we tried some of the best typical Portuguese dishes. There’s a great variety of outdoor activities you can do in the nature like swimming, trekking, rappel, treasure hunt, traditional games, bow and arrow, mountain climbing, BTT, paintball or treetop walking. We also tasted some homemade maize flour cake (broa) and the typical honey of the region all washed down with a sweet refreshing Champaign sangria drink. Really awesome!

The little village “aldeia de Pena” where al the houses are in “Slate” is about a 20km from São Pedro do Sul (Viseu) hided into a deep vally of the “Serra da Serra de São Macário”. You will drive on a narrow road, for the once who are not used to drive on this roads, be very carefull, certainly because this is the only road to drive to and to leave the village. You cannot drive with the car into the village, you have a small place on the entrance and from there you have to walk. This location is especially for Nature and Mountain Lovers, and is considered one of the most beautiful Lime Stone villages of Portugal.
Nice to visit, but drive very careful on the narrow road.

Aldeia Típica do Fujaco.
Is also a very small and typical Portuguese village, you can visit this on the way back after you have visited the “Aldeia da Pena”. To get there it is the same as the other village, very narrow road with allot of curves, so please drive again very careful, as again it is the only road into and out of the village located in the Serra da Arada who has suffered allot of the fires during this summer. You can compare it with Aldeia da Pena a bit different, but also need to visit.
