Tobacco Road Golf Club

This course threads through a former sand quarry and has the feel of a maze.

This is a challenging to say the least course. Built into the tall Pines, every hole is a hole you will talk about with your buddies. It was very basic when we were there, club house wise, but if you are looking for a challenge in the woods, this is it. Should be part of your experience in the Carolinas

Whether you like fishing, hiking, picnics, biking, paddle boating, canoeing, or just enjoy beautiful scenery, this is the place to go. There is also a playground for children and places to walk your dog. They have covered picnic tables with games that can also be reserved. I've seen very large catfish caught in both ponds by myself and others. Canoe and paddle-boat rentals are on site. I think they also allow camping (or used to). This is a must-do in the Sanford area.

We have purchased many items to decorate our Lake House with cool fun items. The store is way bigger than it looks from the store front. You can almost get lost in the store and loose track of time in going back in time hunting finding all those cool hard to find antique items. It's a great place to visit in down town Sanford.

But desperately in need of more water stops. This is a great course, challenging, and in good shape. A neighborhood ‘our’ course that serves the area, you will find plenty of challenge with very good rolling greens. The clubhouse is ‘southern friendly’ and you’ll enjoy after golf there, unless you die on the course from lack of water. Please hear me....whatever your have is just not enough without cart service. Otherwise i liked it very much.

Old Gilliam Mill Park

Only my first time visiting on 2014, but was very impressed! It was smaller than the Denton NC Thrashers Reunion, but just as good, and alot cooler since it's always held the weekend after Mothers day. Come out and visit the park. Meet Mr. Worth Picket. The gentleman that started it all. Purchase fresh corn meal ground before your eyes in the water powered grist mill. If you like to visit the way things used to be, then you won't be disappointed when you visit.

Quail Ridge Golf Course

Reviewed By Karen W - Orangeville, Canada

Checked this place out on a Tuesday for it was close to Tobacco Road where my son was playing with his golf team. The price seemed right so me, my husband and another father checked it out. It cost $20.00 to play including cart. The course has a really nice layout and is not overly hard to play. There is some holes that are surrounded by beautiful homes. The course was not busy so we did not feel rushed at any hole which was a good thing for we are not great golfers. The golf carts are brand new but unfortunately the golf course is not. Lets just say you get what you pay for. The fairways are in really bad shape and the cart paths really need to be fixed up. Now I know it was only March but not sure how much better they will get. The greens though are in very good shape and most of the bunkers are well maintained. It is a good spot to take beginner golfers or young golfers for it is not expensive to play.

White Pines Nature Preserve

Reviewed By jmpncsu - Raleigh, North Carolina

White Pines Nature Preserve is a Triangle Land Conservancy property in Chatham County about 8 miles south of Pittsboro. The area protects the steep bluffs at the confluence of the Deep and Rocky Rivers. These north-facing bluffs create a microclimate cooler than the surrounding Piedmont that supports a population of white pine outside its normal mountain habitat. There are about 3 miles of trails that loop throughout the preserve, providing visitors an opportunity to explore this special place. The Gilbert Yager trail makes a loop of about a mile through the southern part of the preserve and offers views of Deep River from high bluffs. The area is forested so the best views will be in the winter when the leaves are down. This trail also heads through an area where young white pines are growing. The White Pines Trail runs through the middle of the park and connects with the other trails. The River Trail leads down to the banks of Deep River and heads to the confluence and then along Rocky River. The best views of the rivers are from this trail. The School Kids loop is a short trail along Rocky River that leads to an old cable bridge. In the past, children had to cross the river on this bridge to go to school. Overall, this is a great little preserve and nice spot for an easy, relaxing hike. It's particularly nice in the summer when the preserve is a few degrees cooler than anywhere else around.

Sanford Municipal Golf Course

We played here on July 4th. The course is not real long but the greens are very nice. They roll true and hold your shots well. The fairways were a bit dry, there are quite a few doglegs, and all in all we had a good time playing it. It is not that expensive.
