Solitude River Trips

We provide everything except your personal clothes. There are no strangers here, just folks we haven't met yet

Reviewed By Kelly L - Star, Idaho

This was our third trip with Solitude and our first with current owner, Willi Cannell. Each trip has been better than the previous! Willi and his crew see to everything, and our comfort and safety are their first priority. The food was delicious, our sleeping arrangements were comfy, and the scenery . . . well, it's simply amazing. The kids were never bored - and that's without their electronics! The crew's knowledge of the river was impressive, and we enjoyed hearing all the stories about those who came long before we did. Whether you're a seasoned river rafter or just mildly interested, we recommend the Middle Fork and Solitude. You'll be forever grateful that you made the trip to this special place!

As a small business owner I know how challenging managing a business can be. Idaho River Journeys is a professionally managed, efficient, ethical & friendly operation. They know what they are doing and I always experienced the highest level of care, safety and fun. Their skilled river guides are amazing well-rounded individuals who are highly versed in the history and lore of the river, wildlife and beyond. Their teamwork is amazing to watch and watch one does because to do otherwise would be throwing a cog in the choreography of the teamwork they perform over quite long hours. Day in and out they always have a smile and positive attitude. You must experience the art form of dutch oven cooking and baking they pull off. Homemade cake! I highly recommend a trip with Idaho River Journeys. You will always remember it with a smile on your face. Jan

Spent a week with them on the Middle Fork mid-July 2017.

The good: Incredible scenery, gorgeous wild country. Awesome young guides- super friendly, competent and safe on the river, hardworking, enthusiastic. Great dry fly fishing. My four teenagers loved the adventure, the young guides, and learning to read the river and paddle the inflatable"duckies".Amazing stars at night.

The bad: You are going to be wet and cold most of the time. We are from Florida and should have brought different gear for the boats. It was like doing a long windy crossing to the Bahamas in the middle of the winter in a half sunken boat the entire day. We found it a cold beat down. If you are from a warm climate bring rain pants and a fleece vest to wear under your rain jacket on the river. My back still hurts from sitting on the raft all day there are no backrests, The camp chairs on the bow of the boat were broken. I chose to sit on the back tube many days to fish which was my choice but hard on the back. The cots are hard on older backs too. I would have enjoyed this trip 25 years ago.

The ugly: The camp experience was nothing like Brad’s assurances or the video he has posted. Call us soft but it was really rough, we had not camped in 20 years, we should have known better. I was very angry with Brad, and myself for letting him convince us it would be comfortable. He, my wife and myself I had a conference call specifically about the camping because we really didn’t want to rough it on our main annual vacation. Her comment to me the afternoon of the first day was “ I think we have made the biggest mistake of our lives”. We were going to rent a house but he talked us out of it. Big mistake. First afternoon started with Luke leading a demonstration of how to put together your own cots which got your hands covered with aluminum dust. What ? I thought we were supposed to be pampered. They forgot to ice the beverages first day, no cold beer after a long day on the river. All the guests drinks mixed together another family could not even find theirs. One cheap Igloo cooler the whole trip for all the guest beverages meant they were lukewarm most of the time and hard to find clean ice for a drink. Where were the two hot showers from the video? One semi hot shower showed up day 3 after I complained to Luke. More experienced guests will race for the best tent sites leaving rookies with bad sites and downward sloping cots which you would slowly slide off at night, on the advice of another camper I had to go search out rocks the first three nights to level our cots. We never met or spoke to Brad the entire time we were there. I could go on but you get the point. If you are out of practice tent camping and want some comfort on your vacation take a pass.

This place has a great laid out walking trail as well as mocked up tepees and camp sites. Also, we listened to a well presented interpretive talk. This weekend there is the yearly celebration of the Shoshone people who lived here.

A+!!! Our first whitewater rafting trip. Could not have been better organized, more fun, or delivered better service. Steve the guide was competent, knowledgeable, and reassuring with a good sense of humor. And the food!!! Homemade walnut blinders and chocolate chip cookies for snack. The cookies were crispy AND chewy. Do you know how hard that is to master?!? Lunch was grilled chicken, potato salad, green salad, fresh fruit, and dips and chips. Fabulous! Some of the other guests were back for the 2nd and 3rd times. I recommend Rawhide Outfitters without reservation.

Goldbug Hot Springs

Reviewed By sierradave1 - Progreso, Mexico

Driving south from Salmon you pass mile 282; right after that the entrance to a ranch and IMMEDIATELY an unmarked road--no sign whatsoever other than DEAD END. Turn in and you'll see parked cars; this will tell you right away how crowded it will be up there.
Ditto the "comfortable shoes" comment, but I think the best things to bring are a good walking stick, bug repellent and lots of water.
Those things all said, Goldbug is truly a wonderful and unique place and worth whatever you have to do to get there. Enjoy!

We had read about the collections of this small museum and were delighted to find it as wonderful as reported. The museum has the largest collection of Lemhi Shoshone ( Sacagawea's people) artifacts and they are beautifully displayed. There is also an interesting display of a collection of Asian items collected by a man and donated to the museum. It's well worth a visit.

This family owned and operated business gives clients the experience of a lifetime. I have never rafted before so I had some trepidation in signing up for a 5 day trip. I need not have!!. The equipment they provided was either new or like new with very good tents and sleeping bags. The rafts, kayaks and paddleboards too were of the highest quality and condition. The guides are passionate about giving their passengers a safe and enjoyable experience, and with their many years of experience (I think Jerry has over 30 years guiding experience) have so much knowledge of the history of this region to share. On this trip participants ranged from 7 to over 70, with everyone having a great experience. And like all other aspects of this business, the food was great. My only disappointment - 5 days went too quickly. Would I do it again?? YES, I am booking to do it again in 2 years.
