I spent 2 days being driven around the reserve with a local guide for help-Vieux Mamadou. Most people visit just for the boat ride to the huge pelican colony. Did that 9 years ago and this time tried to photograph as many new birds as I could while being close to watering holes for shore birds, going along savanna roads, etc. Found the chestnut bellied sandgrouse, crowned crane, black stork, long tailed nightjar and many others too numerous to mention.

It came as a surprise, since Sahara is so far. But this is a small desert between saint Louis and the Lac Rose which makes for a great day. You don't really feel 'the immensity of the desert' but the colors, sand and feeling was similar to the real thing. The staff was very nice too. A thing we liked very much is that they allowed our driver for free accommodation and dinner

Learn about Senegalese culture through its esthetic traditions! Textiles can tell you about history, structure of society, commerce, cultural influences. The space is not big, but don't rush through. Take your time to read the descriptions. If you are lucky, Maï - the person behind the institution - is available and can present the exhibition herself. Camée is related to the Tëss gallery and weavery which are also well worth a visit.
