Chemin de Halage

Although you can join this beautiful river path at several points following it's journey, I chose St Lo as a central starting point. Deciding to head towards the source of the river at the Gorges of La Vire along a well used wide compact shingle surface which is ideal for cyclists, walkers, horse riders or disabled wheelchairs, we passed some lovely villages and small towns on our journey. Having stopped at Conde sur Vire and had great fun on the Velorail along a disused railway track and then lunch at Tessy sur Vire before our destination in Pont Farcy. Heading towards the destination of the River the following day passing through Pont Hebert, St Fromond and finally Carentan where the path ends and La Vire will go on to reach the sea at it's journey's end. This path is amazing and allows you to have a true look at La Manche and it's secret places without any motorised vehicles. At over 60 kilometres in length on a well looked after path, this stunning Vire valley is a holiday in itself.
