I enjoyed my visit to the historic CASTLE RUURLO dating from the year 1326.The castle tower dates from 1572 and parts of the castle date from the 16th century.
Inside the historic building there is an interesting exhibition of masterpieces by the Dutch painter CAREL WILLINK(1900-1983)in his detailed and magical style of oil-painting.
Carel Willink called his style of painting "imaginary realism" and art critics called it "magical realism".The Carel Willink museum opened june 27 2017 and was created by industrialist Hans Melchers (Bloemendaal1938) who also founded Museum More in nearby Gorssel. Before the opening of both museums the masterpieces were displayed in Spanbroek Noord Holland province in the former "Scheringa Museum voor Realisme".
After closure of this private art-project by former dutch banker Dirk Scheringa the collection was bought by industrialist Hans Melchers and can now be enjoyed once more by the public.I have to say that the charming castle and Gardens in Gelderland province make a more fitting decor for the paintings compared to the former school at the village of Spanbroek in Noord Holland province.
Museumjaarkaart is accepted and castle is 10 minutes walk from Ruurlo NS railway station.

I am not particularly interested in the topic of this museum, but had a pleasant surprise when we visited the Kristal museum. The collection was presented very well and there was plenty to learn for people of all ages. The information included the basics as well as the more scientific aspects. Interactivity was catered for with a very good treasure hunt as well as an activity room to learn panning for gold.
My (teenage) daughters were fascinated by the fossils and we all enjoyed the 'sparkly things'.

In Ruurlo is one of the four unique locations of Klimbos Nederland located: Klimbos Achterhoek. Through challenging Bridges and nets, sturdy lianas and crazy zip lines, you will experience an amazing adventure in the middle of nature. All routes are expertly developed with high quality material. Safety has the highest priority. You climb in Ruurlo with a continuous zekerysteem so you can safely climb independently. Everything is TÜV-certified. This Klimbos has 7 different routes where the level and the heights differ per route. The perfect getaway for young and old! You can climb the age of 7 years and start with the junior routes. Please note, the child must have a reach height of 1.30m. For the smallest there is a climbing route of 1 meter high. A visit to Klimbos Achterhoek takes about 3.5 hours, including instruction. Afterwards you can enjoy an ice cream or a tasty pancake at the adjacent restaurant De Heikamp.

My family enjoyed an afternoon in the trees on our most recent vacation. My kids, (9 and 11) were given high quality equipment, guidance on how to use it, and recommendations on which course to start on. From there we were able to explore the park's multiple courses. Guides were on the ground offering support when needed. There was enough variety in the routes that we all found something to challenge us. At the end of the day, all of us left with a feeling of accomplishment and fun memories to share.

Because we liked our visit to "De Wiersse" in july 2017 so much we decided to come back to the Gardens on october the 22th for a lecture and guided walk by Dutch horticulture-publicist Romke van der Kaa. The interesting lecture was on hardy ferns for Dutch Gardens and was a good opportunity to see the historic interior of a reconstructed 17th century room.The estate was founded in 1288 and bought by the 19th century former Minister Victor de Stuers .The autumnal colors were pleasant and there were some late autumnal flowers.entry fee 6,50.only open on certain dates published on website.

Brandweermuseum Borculo shows an impressive collection of fire service related items. It is maintained well, but it does show some signs that the collection is starting to get outdated. Some of the displays are showing their age and more modern museums offer more interactivity.
Four stars, because the collection is extensive, shows good breadth and is informative. If you are interested in fire service, this is a must see, if you are in the area and have a few hours to spare, you could do worse that giving this a visit.

Wheelchairfriendly paths will lead you through a 6000 m2-big indoor glasshouse with thousands different species of colourful cacti, nostalgic houses, an artexposition about Indians/Native Americans, old farming machines, 400 m2 model railway (LGB), and a birdgarden with singing and talking birds. A spectacular peak is when the "Queen of the Night" flowers; this is a cactusflower of 35 cm diameter and it only flowers at night. Dit park is eigenlijk een serre die ingericht is als "woestijn" met zeerveel verschillende cactussen waar er een aantal terplaatse gekweekt worden.Er staat ook een verzameling landbouwallaam... en diverse kleurrijke vogels... grasparkieten,valkparkieten ... Er kunnen ook diverse activiteiten georganiseerd worden voor kinderen ... workshops... verjaardagfeestjes... een uit de hand gelopen hobby... De prijs die men vraagt om al dit fraais te bekijken, swingt naar mijn mening wel de pan uit... €5.5 per persoon.

We konden de auto tussen de bomen parkeren en hebben verder wat gelopen. Het landhuis Beekvliet is verder niet toegankelijk. We zijn een stukje langs de Berkel rivier gelopen, maar waren niet zeker of we ook een rondje konden lopen, dus hebben dezelfde weg terug genomen. Het is mooi en wijds, met een betere kaart en/of informatie hadden we er misschien nog meer aangehad. Ligt tussen Borculo en Barchem.

Een leuke plek om met camper of caravan de kamperen. Vriendelijke en gezellige eigenaar die tevens zijn eigen wijnen maakt. Je kampeert er tussen de wijnranken in een van de mooiste stukjes van de Achterhoek. PLaatsen als Ruurlo en Vorden zijn goed op de fiets bereikbaar.

This tourist information office is open all year round and has information not just on Ruurlo itself, but also on the surrounding area. Very helpful stop!
