This is every woman’s dream! What woman wouldn’t want to visit a shoe museum?! In any case, it was always my dream to visit since I first learned about it years ago and the day finally came.
For those women who might have a difficult time trying to convince the men in their lives to visit, you can sell it as a historical monument and the fact that it has some really wonderful and fascinating shoes, both men and women’s, beginning from ancient times. Oddly, there is also a very interesting, informative, well-done small museum-within-a-museum here about the Resistance and Deportation in the region during World War II, which is sure to interest history lovers. Although, if you don’t read or understand French, then it is most definitely worth it to get an audio guide for the entire site, very inexpensive as I recall.
Situated in the former 17th Convent of the Visitation, this site now tells the story of footwear, from ancient to modern times, and across 5 continents. The former convent building and the Gardens around it are listed as Historical Monuments in France. Tools, machinery and video documents trace the history of the shoe in the museum. That part is interesting but the best part was the actual shoes, from sandals of ancient Egypt, musketeers’ boots, dainty and embroidered narrow silk shoes from the time of Louis XIV, tiny boots for the purposely bound and deformed feet of Chinese women in the 18th century, to the creative shoes, many even considered works of art, of today.
You can ask to purchase a combined and cheaper ticket for a visit to Le Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval, which is only about 27 km away and also worth seeing! There is a small boutique but honestly not much worth buying except maybe some postcards of shoes displayed in the museum or a book on shoes.
Romans was and still is known for shoe manufacturing, so if you have time, go into the old town and take a look through some of the outlet shops with great deals on a variety of brands.

Jardin zen d'Erik Borja

This garden is stunning, and one of the best I've ever visited. There are many different Gardens within, including a tea garden, dragon garden, and meditation garden. All the plants were tightly bunched and looking lush, with spots of colour coming through. Water was everywhere in this garden, with relaxing trickling sounds calming you all the way. There is a use of old stone and wood with paths meandering through foliage, and plants creeping over old walls. Lastly, height is used as an advantage, with terraces overlooking ponds brimming with water lilies. This garden is truly magical.
