In the morning of our checkout we took time to wander around the center of Portogruaro. St. Andrew's Mill is in a pretty park known for its ducks And also for its nutria which is a rodent that swims around with orange teeth. There is even a couple of statues of nutria. We did not see one. The whole setting is pleasant and the old mill wheels are still working.

The current Cathedral dates to the 15th century but churches have stood in this spot since the 4th century as can be seen in the nearby archeological dig. The current church has been pretty much renovated since the 15th century but holds a few frescoes and Roman pieces. There is a charming Roman Fountain that has been repurposed into a baptismal font.

Wandering the streets of Portogruaro is a pleasant experience. We looked into this portal and found the most amazing collection of archaeological remains collected in this regional museum. The finds are mainly from a Roman settlement nearby called Concordia which were collected mainly in the 19th century. An interesting and beautiful exhibition.

The Cathedral of St. Andrew is an 18th century church so was really outside of our interest area of early Christian churches. It is a nice looking church with art work from the period. The bell tower next to it is leaning much like the tower in Pisa! If you have time when you are walking around the pretty central square, it is a fine local attraction to look in at.
