Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar

Spitfire restoration business offering tours and the opportunity to sit in a Spitfire on weekdays at either 11am or 2pm. Pre-booking is essential.

I had this booked for a good few months in advance, and it was totally worth the wait! I chose to go for the 'Sit in a Spit' Experience, and it was absolutely amazing; a childhood dream come true!
Our tour guide was very attentive, friendly and informative about many of the different things going on in the restoration hangar and answered any questions that were asked.
It is an active area, and every so often you'll see and more evocatively, hear Spitfires taking off, landing, taxiing and all the sights sounds and smells that go with it.
Would highly recommend! ! !

Charles Darwin Down House

We've visited the house yesterday with my partner and are feeling very inspired by Charles Darwin's life. Great to see his family tree and fathers/uncles he was inspired and supported by, his children, diaries which even describe what he was eating on his voyage over the seas...
Anyway, there are also great rooms with games and colouring sheets for kids (next time I should bring my niece).
Volunteers working in the house were very friendly and helpful and the Downe village is also lovely
There is a walk out of the house, through the Gardens, the covered ''hot '' garden with tropical plants (where there was a very friendly volunteer too), and further a nice walk through the woods

Whenever I am asked "where shall we go for a walk today" by my partner, High Elms Country Park is always a popular favourite. With many routes to take within the ancient woodlands, Friendly dog walkers always great you with a smile as they pass by, and return your greeting. If the weather turns damp, don't worry as the trees seem to bear the rain better than if walking though meadows etc.

I've been here several times and always recommend it and enjoy it. A super cheap day out (4 of us was £17) for exploring all different animals and handling too.
The money all goes back in to supporting the rescue which does fantastic work.
You can also rescue and sponsor some of the zoo's residents.
We handled bearded dragons and snakes on our last trip and watched several animal feeding times.
The gift and pet shop is affordable and offers a wide range of products.
We usually stop for lunch at the on site cafe, which is again low priced and serves a range of typical diner foods - sandwiches, chips, burgers etc.
Definitely well worth a visit.

This should have been a very interesting and illuminating tour. Unfortunately, the tour that we saw lacked in coherence and facts. Anything that might have been interesting or based in fact was glossed over in favour of stories that were almost certainly not true. If the tour guide knew anything about the caves, he did a good job of covering it up. The Delivery and structure was so scatalogical that I came out of the caves none the wiser about the history. A quick Google search would yield more information than this tour. I only give this attraction two stars because of the caves themselves. A massive missed opportunity.

I was given the task to organise a Wine Tasting event for our club. So, 48 of us went and had a wonderful evening on Saturday night. Myles gave a very interesting and knowledgeable talk on the 5 different wines. The charcuterie boards to share were delicious and very substantial as were the generous glasses of wine to taste. I love the venue, sitting at long tables as we did made for a very relaxing, pleasant and convivial evening. My contact at the venue, the lovely Lizzie, answered all my various emails very promptly and willingly catered for the various dietary needs of our party. They even have a Wimbledon type sliding roof in the room to cater for our unpredictable weather !!! I can't wait to go back in the summer and will also pop in for coffee and pizza when in Shoreham. This will also make a great birthday treat for my daughter in law's 40th birthday in September. The whole team was young and engaging and looked after us so well. It made for a very memorable evening. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

The best place in town to walk off your excess Christmas calories! Terrific park with beautiful lake, ducks to feed, swans to watch, Canadian geese to not feed and pretty Gardens. Dog friendly on one side. Although I know parking can be an issue, I always walk here. There's a great little row of shops leading up to the park with a Sponge Kitchen and a few others. Just a happy place to walk or exercise or take your dog. There is also a children's playground. I believe it shuts at Sunset and there are toilets.

When I booked this for my daughter and her friends, I thought that 9am to 3.30pm would be too long and they would lose interest. But, surprisingly, the teenagers loved it and would go back again. The venue was easy to get to by train and the walk up the hill passed quickly. The venue was muddy and the rain came and went, but this added to the excitement. Service was a bit slow but there was near enough 100 mainly young males all raring to go. The paintballs hurt a lot less than I thought they would and the different game areas helped to keep your interest. You get divided into largish teams and you soon find yourself working with people you have never met before. If the weather is going to be wet, definitely bring strong mountain boots and come layered, as you are provided with army overalls and you get quite hot in them. The serious guys have their own kit, but everyone is out to have fun. Overall, it was well organised, the staff know what they are doing and everything seems to run like clockwork. It overran but no one seemed to mind. Food comes as part of the deal, and food and drink can be bought there.
If you haven't done something like this before, it's worth a try.

My partner & I bought a VIP experience day on Groupon for a ridiculously cheap price. We were greeted by the lovely Abbie, who showed around & gave lots of interesting information on all the animals. Then for the first bird of prey flying display. After that was lunch £5 each towards lunch was included in the price. Then we got to handle an owl and a Harris hawk. After that cuddles with the huskies. Then the second display. Both displays were funny, informative and I got smacked on the head by a bald eagles wing. Didn’t hurt, but shows how close you are to the birds. Absolutely fantastic day, thank you Abbie x. Definitely coming again!!!

Woldingham Golf Club

Set in the heart of the countryside in the picturesque Halliloo Valley near Caterham, Woldingham Golf Club is conveniently located close to junction 6 of the M25.The stately clubhouse, in the style of a country mansion, houses a comfortable spike bar with patio area, spacious changing facilities and pro-shop. Wherever you look, there are lovely views of the course and surrounding countryside.

Reviewed By Philip S - Pakenham, United Kingdom

£18 for a round of golf inside the M25 is relatively cheap; and whilst Woldingham isn't the most challenging of courses, it was in good condition with plenty of sand in some very deep bunkers and one very impressive looking clubhouse.
The first 4 holes of the course does involve playing across some side slopes, but from the 5th hole onwards the course is very flat apart from the uphill par 3 7th. Some of the early holes on the back nine seemed a bit "back and forward", but they do involve some thinking.
Overall, not the most memorable of courses; but, you do get good value and you shouldn't lose too many golf balls.
