Orchha Fort

Reviewed By Lalbahadur - Mumbai, India

Orchha fort of Bundelas is really very beautiful, large and embedded with master architecture. Situated on the bank of Betwa river, accessible by a bridge on Betwa. There is a fee counter at entry gate & 2 ways to go. One leads to raj mahal and jahangir palace while the other one leads to raipraveen palace. Its better to start from raj mahal and then followed by Sheesh Mahal, jahangir mahal, raipraveen palace.
Keep atleast 5 hrs to do it completely. Guided tour is recommended. Guides are available at entry fee counter. Choose the guide registered with MPTDC holding an I-card. The construction, art work and architecture, all are very beautiful. Try to visit in morning time to catch some very beautiful pictures.
At the end of tour you will definitely be amazed by the glory and golden history of Bundelas. Once can attend Light and sound show in the evening. 6:30 pm in English and 8 pm in hindi. Definitely a must to attend. Fee for Light and sound show is 160 INR for indians.

This palace is right next to Orchha Fort and I liked this one better but both are worth seeing. This is a bit smaller but has some stunning rooms. Fantastic for taking pictures. Beautyful ceilings in some rooms. This place will take 30 to 45 minutes to go through.

If you are visiting Orchha for 2 days then I suggest you to visit this temple which is next to Raja Ram temple. It's a huge structure visible from almost anywhere in the city and front part of Palace complex. Approach to this place is dirty and surrounded by the cows.

Ram Raja Temple

Reviewed By Gaurav K - Gurugram (Gurgaon), India

Well, to be upfront, I did not go there as a devotee. I thought there would be some ancient architecture or something different... I was wrong. It is just like any other temple in India, though devotees / spiritual types would like the place more.
Mobile phones or cameras aren't allowed inside though I saw policemen using them inside premises...
Jai Sri Ram!

Chhatris Cenotaphs

Reviewed By Jewlzcee - Hamilton

These cenotaphs are well worth a visit. They were part of our tour and our tour guide from Jehangir Mahal said that they were his favourite, and I can see why. The grounds are well maintained by a volunteer. The cenotaphs are in a lovely setting and you can walk easily around the grounds, as well as along the river. There is also a vulture conservation program in place, and it was great to see the many vultures on the sides of some of the cenotaphs, as well as babies in their nests. It made it almost gothic like when you saw their outlines on the side of the buildings.

Betwa River

Reviewed By vipulagrawal1 - Lucknow, India

Orchha is situated at the banks of River Betwa. It's quite close to the Raja Ram Mandir and various attractions and hotels in Orchha. On the other side there is Green area and jungle. It's worth taking a dip but carefully as the flow of water is too much. MP tourism operates rafting sports on the river which is quite adventurous.

A thoroughly enjoyable meal cooked by an english speaking cook with the cleanest house we came across. The vegetarian meal demonstrated was truly lovely and everybody went back for seconds. She really showed how to prepare a wonderful meal for 20 of us with the minimum of fuss. The welcoming cup of Masala Chai was lovely.
Pre packaged spices which are able to be brought back into Australia are also for sale at a good price and at a much better quality than what we can get at home.
