Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf

Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf is arguably the most influential of all New Zealand’s ‘galleries without walls’, and has gone on to inspire similar exhibitions around the world. Set amongst some of the most magnificent coastal landscape in the world, the undulating walkway, which snakes its way around the headland from above Matiatia towards Church Bay on Waiheke Island, has served as a temporary home for pieces created by a who’s who of New Zealand art, including Virginia King, David McCracken, Brett Graham, Phil Price, Gregor Kregar, Sriwhana Spong, Jeff Thomson, Chris Bailey, Anton Forde, Kazu Nakagawa, Denis O’Connor and Chris Booth. Sculpture on the Gulf is only a 35 minute journey by ferry from downtown Auckland. The next event will be held in 2022, and exciting plans are underway for an exhibition like no other. Our Matiatia headland is tūrangawaewae – a place for all artists to stand tall.

Jurassic Ridge Vineyard

Reviewed By NMVino - Hamilton, New Zealand

This vineyard and Lance was the highlight of our trip out of all the vineyards we visited. Lance, the owner/winemaker/host.... is extremely passionate about what he does and so knowledgeable - we thought we knew a lot about wine until we started talking and listening to Lance. Jurassic Ridge Vineyard and winery are Certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and the wines are as authentic and natural as you can get and are aged so much longer than other wines elsewhere. They are only released once they have Lance's stamp of approval and this can be some 5+ years later. Being only one of 4% in the entire world whereby the wine has no added additives whatsoever. We got to taste a wide selection of fabulous tasting wines and needless to say came away with quite a few bottles to enjoy at home with friends. A wonderful experience and we will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommended!
