Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre

A great family tourist attraction. Informative - and interesting aviation heritage and activity museum. Ideal for young and old. Indoor and outdoor exhibits. Sit inside the cockpits of some fantastic aircraft...

Reviewed By ZWellington

The aircraft they have on show are really good and lots to go inside to explore. The volunteers are all really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
It was great value the family ticket as was the food. We had pasty, sausage roll and jacket potatoes all cooked to order really tasty and again good value.
We spent about 2 and 1/2 hrs there going inside the aircraft a few times- all really welcoming - highly recommend a visit here and be back again soon.

Watergate Bay

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Watergate Bay - walk along the beach, digging the sand, throwing pebbles in the sea and then a well deserved cuppa and cake in The Beach Hut afterwards. Easy parking, access down the slope/steps and then fresh air to blow the cobwebs away.

Holywell Bay Beach

Reviewed By Janice D - Ascot, United Kingdom

Being a huge Poldark fan I couldn’t not visit this beach which is used as the setting for Nampara cove, and more recently known in series 3 as Drake and Morwennas beach.
Just slightly South West of Newquay easy to find along the coastal road. There’s a large National Trust car park just off the beach. A large expanse of soft sand backed by sand dunes. The downside is no facilities so make sure you pack your own picnic and take plenty of water in the summer. Not sure where the nearest toilets are either.
It’s a beautiful beach though with lifeguards on duty. Suitable for swimming, Surfing and doggie friendly too.

Fistral Beach

This splendid beach offers excellent water for Surfing and body boarding.

Fantastic sandy beach, with waves to suit the best surfers.
Plenty of eating and refreshment places on the way on to the beach and even a surf hire shop.
Currently dog friendly ( not sure it is year round).
Imagine it gets extremely busy in the summer months and parking is probably a pain as not that much of it for the size of the beach, easy for us today but then the downside is the weather.

Polzeath Beach

Only a ten-minute walk along a coastal path to Old Polzeath, the beach is well known for its surf, which makes it ideal for Malibu and body Surfing.

Reviewed By Leila N - Plymouth, United Kingdom

After a day trip in Cornwall over the Bank Holiday weekend we decided to stop for supper at Polzeath Beach rather than driving straight home and boy was it worth it!
We picked the point where the sun had just started to lower in the sky and the beach looked majestic. We hadn't planned on this part of the day so we didn't have swimming costumes, towels etc, but we just let our girls go for it as we had a change of dry clothes. They ran down the long stream that takes you down to the edge of the water and just dived in. The shear size of the beach was wonderful, even at 6pm it was still bustling with families enjoying the last rays of the day. We played on the beach for a while before drying off and heading for food. I found several places online that looked great as we were heading for the bay, but of course they were fully booked. They looked amazing though and we will definitely return, one place even had a BBQ, but it had sadly just finished, it wasn't your average BBQ and looked pretty special!
In the end we enjoyed wood fired pizzas and watched the sun go down. It was the perfect end to a beautiful Bank Holiday!

The Japanese Garden

EAST MEETS WEST The Japanese Garden in Cornwall combines the beauty of nature with an artistic refinement using shaping & styling of plants & natural elements. It is a place of tranquillity with a variety of plants and water features, where visitors can enjoy the wonder of nature in a peaceful, relaxing space. The garden was built as a meditative garden, where one can calm the mind & let go of unwanted stress through contemplation & reflection. We are open from 10am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Last entrance to the Japanese Garden 5pm. NEW SEASONAL OPENING TIMES We are open from the 1st March to the 31st October Admission Prices Adults: £4.50 Children: £2.00 Babies/in buggies free Shop & plant areas are admission free. This year we will be offering Season Tickets for £9 – which will enable one person to visit the Japanese Garden as often as they like during our opening dates & times. Useful Information Garden size: 1 acre approx Wheelchair friendly: Yes, 90% + (gravel paths) Refreshments: Yes, small selection of hot & cold drinks & outdoor Seating area Toilets: None on site. Public toilet facilities approximately 20 meters from car park entrance Dogs: We love dogs & have one of our own (Rupert), but cannot allow dogs, except guide dogs, in the Japanese Garden. There is ample shade in our car park & we can provide water for a four legged friend if requested The Japanese Garden is just over an acre in size & is located in the picturesque village of St. Mawgan. There is a variety of trees & plants growing in the garden; some planted 20-30 years ago when the garden was first created & others that have been growing for easily a hundred years. Plants that are classically recognised as Japanese (Japanese Acers for example) are located in abundance throughout the garden & these are blended with some beautiful, local Cornish plants (such as a huge english oak tree among others). Depending on when you visit you might see the spectacular Asaleas flowering in the spring, or the Japanese Acers turning from green to vivid red in the autumn. We now offer a small selection of refreshments (some hot & cold drinks) & a Seating area near to our shop. We are hoping to develop a cafe in the future, so we are always keen to hear suggestions about what you might like. If you would like to bring your own food, you are more than welcome, we just ask that you do not leave any litter in the garden. We do not have toilets on site but the village public toilets are accessible & are just around the corner from our car park entrance (less than a 2 minute walk).

Having been to Japan last year I was impressed by just how good this little garden was, with its pond and running water, its paths and walkways, its formal zen garden, and its woodland section. Really quite a treat. And a good shop afterwards - I came away with a Kyoto Lantern (difficult to get a good quality one like this) and some plants which I will have a go at bonsai-ing.
Very reasonably priced (I think it was £6 admission) and, best of all, peaceful and meditative, which is more than can be said of many Gardens.
