Nagapattinam (nākappaṭṭinam, previously spelt Nagapatnam or Negapatam) is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Nagapattinam District. The town came to prominence during the period of Medieval Cholas (9th–12th century CE) and served as their important port for commerce and east-bound naval expeditions. The Chudamani Vihara in Nagapattinam constructed by the Srivijayan king Sri Mara Vijayattungavarman of the Sailendra dynasty with the help of Rajaraja Chola I was an important Buddhist structure in those times. Nagapattinam was settled by the Portuguese and, later, the Dutch under whom it served as the capital of Dutch Coromandel from 1660 to 1781. In November 1781, the town was conquered by the British East India Company. It served as the capital of Tanjore district from 1799 to 1845 under Madras Presidency of the British. It continued to be a part of Thanjavur district in Independent India. In 1991, it was made the headquarters of the newly created Nagapattinam District. Nagapattinam is administered by a Selection-grade municipality covering an area of 17.92 km (6.92 sq mi) and had a population of 102,905 as of 2011.

We found this temple (Sattainathar Temple, 106 D, Pidari South Street, Thenpathi, Sirkazhi, Tamil Nadu 609111) from Thillai Nataraja's temple website while browsing and we immediately made plan to visit this place next morning. I must say, we are blessed to visit this temple. I would request all people travelling to chidambaram must visit this temple as well. Legend says, the shiva linga is installed by Lord Brahama himself @ GF. At FF, there is lord Shiva and Parvathi Idol, first time i saw lord shiva Idol (not linga). Very Mesmerizing and pleasant look. Equally polite was the priest who (fortunately) can speak in Hindi (north indian dialect) so i got to know about the history of this great temple. There is ample of paid parking outside the temple. It's huge from inside with lots of other deities temples inside premise. We spent around 2 hours inside and felt really lucky to visit this place.

We had the blessed oppurtunity of having dharshan of Lord Akshayalingeswarar and Godess Sundara Gujambal on 21st of July 2018. The temple is in Keezh Velur in Nagai district. It is a very old temple spread over a vast area. Very neatly maintained. There is a seperate sannidhis for Godess Anju Vattathu Amman and Lordd Kuberan. We were blessed to attend Antha Jama booja and palli arai pooja and accompany the small procession by a chariot during the pooja. Very devine experience. All the devotees present were given prasadhams after the pooja. We spent nearly an hour in the temple. A must visit temple.

Its worth a visit to the point calimere sanctuary. You can spot black bucks, and a number of birds . Better to visit in the morning. There is a small poster area at the entry. Worth spending a few minutes. Go all the way to the shore and enjoy the palk strait. The roads are drivable but rough at places. Make sure you have vehicle with good tires and spare for sure just in case… There are no decent places to stay nearby. Best to stay at Velankini and road (53 kms) is amazing drive
