I suppose visitors to Tono Valley would have to venture out to the coast to take in this attraction, maybe that's why. But this beach features crystal clear water with a pebble bottom, and it's main claim to fame is a row of jagged rocky outcroppings that form a distinctive profile. I visited the place in 2002 or so.
There is a gift shop/restaurant complex next to the beach. I remember feasting on a kind of shellfish endemic to the area; it looks like the tan brown snail that cannibalizes African snails. It has a meaty foot and I ate it grilled in teriyaki sauce on a stick - quite delicious.
This attraction is mainly feasible if you are doing a rental car trip along the coast. Miyako is a bit south and is a small town famous for uni.
I cannot read Kanji so I don't know what the recent posts say. Either the beach is so far north it was spared the tsunami or some of the rocky outcroppings may have been damaged by the tsunami. I hope to return to the eastern coastline someday to compare to how I remember it.

We had a great time on this little boat ride for which we had to be outfitted with both life vests and hard hats. Yes, hard hats. After a little cruise around the sheltered harbor, the boatman took us into the blue cave (aodokutsu). While it wasn't as spectacular as the grotto azure of the Isle of Capri, the principle was the same--water in the cave lit bright blue by the daylight outside the cave. According to the boatman, the light is best in the morning, since the mouth of the cave faces east. Alas, we visited in the afternoon, and because of the tide, we were close enough to the ceiling of the cave that the hard hats came on handy.
Another interesting feature of this trip was the opportunity to feed the birds on the bay as the boat made it's circuit. One very talented bird spent at least a minute perched atop my husband's hard hat!
This wasn't the best little boat ride we've ever had, but it was a fun little respite on the water and probably the best thing we did on Miyako

This review is only of the restaurant, though the hotel itself looked beautiful and is situated on the cliffs above Taro Bay, giving it some outstanding views. The meal was sublime: two plates of sashimi and lightly grilled fish, arranged with colorful fresh vegetables so that each plate looked like a miniature garden of delights. Every bite was completely fresh and delicious, one of the best meals I had in Japan. If the accommodations are half as good, this new Enterprise will be setting the standards for Miyako for many years.

Well designed visitor center next to a stunningly beautiful coastline. Furniture fans will enjoy the upholstered chairs made to look like smooth rocks. Simple, clear exhibits that get the point across.

The park area with Jodogahama Beach has nice trails through beautiful forest. We walked about 1/5 of the trails and spent most of our time on the beach, but in cooler weather I'd have walked all the trails in a day.

魚菜市場ということですが、個人的なんですが全体的にお値段が高すぎる感じがします。買い物を楽しむ気になれませんでした。
季節的な理由もあるもしれません。ウニは一瓶5000円程しており周りのお客さんも悲鳴を上げていました。
しかしながら少しやり過ぎな感じがします。
良くある市場の凄みが感じられません。
出店のお店が減少しており活気が見られませんでした。
場所が悪いのかもしれません。
二日後に八食センターに行ったら余りにもギャップを感じてしまいました。
頑張って欲しいです。

姉吉から歩道を歩いてしか辿り着けない岬のためか訪れる人も少なく、良好な自然環境が保たれている。震災前に訪れてからこれまでに何度も訪問したがなにひとつ変わること無い風景が広がっています。いつまでもこの環境が保たれることを願うばかりです。東日本でも五指に入るお気に入りポイントのひとつです。

This is a larger and more comprehensive “Michi-no-Eki” or Roadside Station in terms of local products, food options and information centre on National Highway 106 between Morioka and Miyako in the prefecture of Iwate. The other one is at Kugai Kogen or Kugai Heights.
Though it is not a part of the “Michi-no-Eki” operation, a very nice Japanese lacquer-ware museum (Yakushi-do Japanese Lacquer-ware Craft Museum, also known as The Kawai Museum of Wood) shares the same parking space here. Make sure to visit this free museum if you happen to be at the “Michi-no-Eki Yamabiko-kan.”

This is one of the two "michi-no-eki" or roadside station on National Highway 106 between Morioka and Miyako. The other one is Yamabiko-kan, located a little closer to the Miyako or the east side from Morioka.
We had a short pit break here and looked around what they offer at the local product section. We liked their fresh and dried vegetable section.
Overall, we liked the Yamabiko-kan that we visited later better.
