Michelle was lovely and helped us with cassowary spotting advice. We followed her map and enjoyed the 2 recommended walks. Still no cassowaries but we loved the forest anyway.

Booked this at the last minute and turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to mission beach. Very interesting learning about the farm to bar production process and seeing and tasting chocolate from end to end. It’s a small operation so don’t expect a slick polished factory which is part of the charm. Definitely worth a visit.

Djiru National Park

We hired some bikes together for the afternoon to go do a bike trail at the back of mission beach, the Musgravea Track which is approx 5kms from one end to the other ???? Ended up covering about 20kms on the bike in total by the time you ride from the bike hire location up the hill to the start of the trail and return ⛰ The trail was corrugated and very bumpy with a couple of bridge crossings but overall not too difficult! Well worth it, great afternoon out! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

Helen Wiltshire Gallery

The Helen Wiltshire Gallery is a beautiful gallery displaying paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery by local artists. Helen Wiltshire was a well know artist whose work brilliantly captures the beauty of the tropics. The gallery displays her paintings and prints. The gallery was originally opened in 1980 and has become an integral part of the art culture of Mission Beach.

What a beautiful shop with local art, other gorgeous items and friendly staff. I loved my cushions I bought there so much I ordered another four when we arrived home from our travels. They certainly brightened up our wintry return home and remind me of our warm and wonderful holiday up through far North Queensland ☀️

Kennedy Walking Track

Walking trail in South Mission beach open to the public

Reviewed By DAMIHATHSA - Cairns, Australia

The walk leaves from the southern end of South Mission, near the boat ramp. There are some rubbish bins and a toilet there, but didn’t see any water. The full track to Kennedy Bay is signed as 8km and 1h 55m. With a few stops along the way, that was pretty close. For those that want something shorter, you can turn around at any time. The track is made up of boardwalks, steps, rocks, roots, mangroves and beach. The track builders have done a great job and I echo the suggestion of other reviewers to do the walk at, or near, low tide. I was even lucky enough to have a Cassowary greet me at Turtle Bay, no turtles though. PS......take heavy duty insect spray as the mozzies were thick at places like Miji Creek ????❌

Dreaming Trail

We chanced upon this trail and hoped to see cassowaries. No sightings but it is a lovely walk along Aboriginal trail and an old mining road. It took about 2 hours return.
