Cape Canaveral National Cemetery will serve over 163,000 Veterans, and their spouses and minor children. Although their address is 5525 U.S. Highway 1, Mims, Florida, their actual physical address is located on 318 acres in Scottsmoor, Florida.
This is the largest National Cemetery expansion since the Civil War. It is a great tribute to our Veterans and a very tranquil place to give them honor and respect for their service and sacrifice.

The visitor center is a few miles out from the north side entrance, access sites for the sounds and beach side are spread out, limited parking. Further south you will find a trail and old house exhibit the Eldora Statehouse. The historic house closes an hour ealier than the visitor center. Also to visit, the Turtle Mound National Historic Site was a hightlight and is on the north side before the visitor center. Great views of ocean and sound.
If you go to the south side entrance, you can drive to the manatee and drawbridge viewing area. If the temperature is higher than 70 degrees, it is more likely you could see the manatees.

Walkabout Golf Club

Top-notch conditions, scenic beauty, style, and substance make Walkabout Golf Club the Space Coast's preferred destination for a golf. The course features lush, rolling fairways, surrounded by serene lakes, and native Florida vegetation & wildlife. First-timers and regulars alike will enjoy a quality golf experience that is challenging but not overwhelming. Eight holes on the front nine, as well as the final five on the back, feature menacing water hazards. Holes #4, #6, and #18 rank among the Space Coast's most Spectacular. The course also includes a bonus 19th green par 3 shaped like the continent of Australia!

Haven't been to Indian River Preserve (formerly Walkabout GC) in many years, mostly because I didn't really care for the layout. The course seems to have had a facelift with a new clubhouse, restaurant, and practice facilities. The putting green is huge, probably a 100 yards long but maybe only 15 yards wide (plenty of targets). I didn't visit the driving range this visit so can't comment on that. We were probably 45 minutes early based on our tee time and the starter offered to let us off the back before the morning groups started making the turn - since it is still 91 degrees midday in Florida we took the early tee time versus warm up time. The course has been flipped (what used to be 1 is now 10) so we went across the street to #10, near the #10 tee box is a small chipping area (larger chipping area near the club house). There is plenty of water, sand and woods around the back 9, not so much on the front 9. The one thing that I didn't like was the ROUGH, it was at least 4" high just off the fairway, you could easily lose a ball in that rough if you didn't walk right over it. Some fairways necked down to 20 yards or less in width and since I am guessing most people are out for recreational golf the rough makes for an unpleasant round. Not only does the rough penalize you at least 1 stroke it slows down play as people are constantly looking for their balls that didn't stay in the fairway. The greens seemed like they were decent sized and in decent shape (they had just aerated and didn't bother to tell us when we booked out tee time - not nice) so they were bumpy. This could be a really nice course if they set it up for more recreational players (I am a 7 handicap and the rough was eating me up), I can't imagine a weekend 15+ handicapper out there having any fun. Not just the fairways but the same rough is around all the green surfaces too, it's not easy to gouge your ball out of that rough. Due to the rough and the narrow fairways I am guessing that an average weekend round must take somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 hours, and for that reason I only gave the course an "average" rating. There are some interesting holes but they really need to make this course more playable for an average golfer. I will say it is in much better shape than when I played it years ago as Walkabout.

I took my father and grandfather, both connected to aviation, to this museum (Senior citizens and military receive admission discounts). They had a really enjoyable time.

I highly recommend utilizing the free tour guide service to show you around. They provide so much more detail, stories, and insight than just the display plaques. And they can answer questions, too. They all have aviation experience. Our tour guide was great. He even asked for my father's insight and experience.

We were at this museum on one of the days the Ford Tri-motor was visiting so we got to watch it take off and land several times, along with several other small planes. The museum is located on an active runway.

The planes were from various years and there were some pretty remarkable ones too. My favorite? One of the planes used in the movie The Great Escape!

All of the planes have been restored and we got to walk through the hanger where they were actively restoring planes.

Even the gift shop was great. The ladies working there were very helpful and friendly.

Aside from the planes, there is a neat museum dedicated to aviation history and has lots of WWII memorabilia.

I highly recommend visiting this museum.

From the start the staff at Midway were fabulous. Captain Ken was very informative as well as entertaining. We had beautiful weather, sunny and warm but not hot. We saw tons of gators, cows, horses, eagles, cranes as well as beautiful pink birds in among the Cyprus trees. Seeing where the water level was from the hurricane was impressive. The ride itself was fun - after we got to hold a baby gator! I will definitely return. Thanks!

1st class operation, Capt Randy was professional, courteous, accommodating, & just fun to be around.. We left out of Loughman Lake Lodge which was a beautiful setting & I enjoyed sitting out on the deck of the restaurant eating while we were waiting to go & enjoyed a cold beverage after we got back... It was nice to go places that weren't used by bigger & more commercial operations, felt like it had a more personal touch, We saw gators & a few really big ones, lots of different types of birds my only regret is that we did the 1 hr tour & that went by quick so I would recommend doing at least the 2 hr if not longer if you want to really experience the waters less traveled... They have a campground onsite as well & I'm hoping to bring my camper next time I"m down this way & will be taking another ride to explore some different areas.
