This is a lovely old building that was described by our guide as one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands. I can agree with that as it is well worth a 'Look See'

Visit this museum and learn about dutch life as well as the rest of the world. There was no exhibition when we went, so we were given gifts to compensate - booklet, postcards, free coffee. There's a great café down stairs. In the afternoon, sadly didn't get back to it, they had hands on craft workshops.

This beautiful Abbey Tower of Long John is situated right on the centre of Middelburg and is a great place from where to view the town. It is easy to spot from anywhere in the town.

Visited with the family in Nov 2013. Lots of thing to do for the kids. Outdoor there is like a typical american circus with all kinds of attractions, including a mini- roller coaster. All is geared towards little children. All is supervised and safety is all over.
Outside there's also a collection of miniatures representing the local area of the province zeeland. Our kids got bored after 5 mins, but that's mainly because there is so much more other interesting stuff available for them.
Indoor is a large playground and a restaurant where they have a good coffee machine, free wifi and enough space for parents to sit, chat or read a book. Kids adore it. We as parents as well!
In the summer season (we were here once in August) it could be a bit busy.
Friendly staff, quality food and drinks, so we defintely recommend this place. Even when it rains.

Leuk voor een paar uur met jonge kinderen: er is wat kleinvee en kinderen kunnen op hun gemak rondkijken. Ook een horecagelegenheid waar je wat kunt eten of drinken en lekker buiten kunt zitten.

This historic church has been ordered in a Protestant fashion: the pulpit is centrally placed. Precisely because the church is fairly sober its architecture can be fully enjoyed.
There is a historic tomb and the case of the oldest Dutch organ can be admired too. There is another organ in use for liturgical purposes and Concerts.

This is a not bad thing to see but not worth going out of your way to see it like I did. Maybe I am detached from the history of this site I am American but there are so many more better sites in this nice city to see. There is nothing wrong with this and I was happy to see it but it shouldn't get a 4 1/2 TripAdvisor rating in my opinion.

I enjoyed the charming historical alley called "Kuiperspoort";The 17th century buildings are reached via a discreet gate located hidden behind the canal called Rouaanse Kaai.
The wooden barrels needed to store water,beer and wine for the 17th-18th century trade-ships were made here. A Kuiper is the Dutch word for a maker of wooden barrels.
In the 17th and 18th century,Middelburg trade companies(WIC,West Indische Compagnie) were an important investor in the Transatlantic Slave Trade to Surinam and Curacao as well as the spice trade (VOC) to the East Indies.
This secluded alley maintains the historical architecture of that period,but obviously the living conditions are much improved making for a quiet residential area.
