My wife and I stopped here for the first time last year. We spent a couple of hours at the very least as there was a fundraising sale of some kind going on. This time we had some time to kill before a doctor's appointment. My wife made a bee-line to the basement. I stayed on the main floor to pick up some travel info for a summer holiday. The young girl working here, who had made it clear that it was her first week on the job, was so pleasant! She offered me a complimentary beverage. I think my choices were coffee, tea, iced tea or lemonade. I got my wife and I iced teas. It was great and such a great added feature. I visited a bit more, found some info on what I was looking for and joined my wife in one of the outbuildings. This time I got a chance to look over some of the antique tools on display. Even for early in the season the heritage flower garden had some very impressive tulips waving at us. A very nice place to stop, take a break and step back in time without going far from your car. Highly recommended! Thank you.

We stumbled across this museum hunting for petrol from the main highway! It is situated next to a thriving community centre. The small but jam packed museum charts the fascinating history of this place from its first nations origins through to the present day. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. They gave us a book full of rich information and photographs and all of this for a optional donation. This small town is worth hunting out (off the main highway to Vancouver) as it is away from the tourist trails and gives a real flavour of lives of the people in British Columbia through time. We had lunch at a local diner eating "Bannock" which is an Indian bread (like a European bap) that was fried but was incredibly light???. We also had "Taters" which is a local variation on chips. A big thank you to the warm people we met at the Museum and local diner.

You owe it to yourself to drive up the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) and visit the quaint little town that's known as the country music capital of the north; Merritt. The murals of famous country music singers are beautifully done and almost lifelike. The town itself is quiet and idyllic and set in the valley at the crossroads of Hwy 5 and the Hwy 97 connector. It is a favourite stop of ours when driving from Vancouver to Kelowna. The walk of stars and Merritt is keeping country music alive in Canada.

We were driving and saw the signs for Laurie Guichon Memorial Grasslands. There are various signs once you get there describing the grasslands, as well as the wildlife. It also educates one about the watershed. It is near Merritt, British Columbia.
The grassland area is named after Laurie Guichon, who was a fourth-generation rancher in the Nicola Valley of the historic Gerard Guichon Ranch and husband of Lt.-Gov. Judy Guichon.
Its a good area for bird watchers. Its also a good area to look for other wildlife.

We found this delightful little Park on our way to our hotel n Merritt. After booking in we decided to picnic in the park instead of having dinner indoors somewhere. The weather was perfect and after gathering some snacks we returned to the park.There was no litter anywhere and the tables and benches were clean. That was great. While we were enjoying our nibbles swimming down the river came a beaver! Fantastic sighting. Unfortunately was not quick enough to get a photograph. I ran to the bridge but he had already passed under it. There were other people picnicking there as well. Also a couple of families with strollers. All in all a truly special place to relax and unwind.

We came here in off season. There was still a bit of snow and the lake was frozen with some ice fisherman on it. There are many sites, all with good access. There are pit toilets in good shape. Every site has a fire ring and a picnic table. There is a small boat launch, rustic children's playground. Nearby is Secret Lake and Kane Lake, all within easy walking distance. Plenty of wild life and the scenery is pretty nice.
In the winter the 50+ km of cross country skiing trail is maintain by a local group and in the summer, I believe the same trails are used by ATV riders.
Great for truck campers or trailers, I am not sure a class A would be a good idea. No dumping station or water supply so come prepared for off grid.
