The 'tastiest' museum in the Netherlands! In the museum you will see attributes and machines, which the baker used in his daily work. Most of these objects are still in use, but usually in a modernised form. The demonstrators use the old machines and other tools, as much as possible. Demonstrations take place at regular intervals at different places through the museum. Next to the demonstrations in the bakery, there are sugar-, marzipan- and chocolate demonstrations. Every day there are extra activities for children. In the shop, they can tell you more about the activities.

The museum is located in the center of Medemblik.
It is actually a small museum and it's housed in a common house.
But it is really worth visiting when you like to see a bakery from old times, or when you have younger kids.
The entrance is also the shop where they sell delicious freshly baked cookies.
They demonstrate how 'gevulde koeken' and 'speculaas' is made, and the smell of the oven will make you hungry!
The kids may help the baker with preparing, and they can decorate a 'speculaas' cookie.
Also a demonstration with chocolate was given.
In the museum you get a nice impression of the equipment and products of a bakery from the past.
A visit to the museum does take about one hour. It's perfect to combine the museum with either a walk in Medemblik (harbour and/or castle Radboud.
You can also consider to take the magnificent steam train to Hoorn.
Tip: parking near the museum is possible around the corner at the trainstation of the steamtrain, but be early as there are a small number of parking spaces.

The place got a lot of amazing Exhibitions. from midgets houses, famous tales Exhibitions, petting farms and small riding Playgrounds (car, horse, train and a boat)
The upside is that the kids (6yr and 2yr) liked everything and was amazed from the Exhibitions. The downside is that everything is in Dutch so they didn't understand anything. (But it seems that it's only annoyed me, they were still amazed from all the puppets and decoration)

Between the historic towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen steamtrams meander from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside and a historic steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer.

On my 12th trip to this fine country, I made the morning trip to Hoorn for the Stoomtram.
Absolutely blown away at how great of an experience it was.
Took "Train #6" which was a line of mostly wooden carriages in excellent condition, with open viewing platforms on the end of each married-couple/ set of cars. Some of the cars were upholstered in red velvet and all were as if they were new.
The staff were so pleasant and the stops along the way just added to the old-time feel that was upheld throughout. Stations turned museums and even a vintage Peugeot that followed us part of the way.
Passed tulip fields, farms, villages, windmills and scenes of countryside life before ending in the great little town of Medemblik; where you can wander for a bit before getting on the Steamliner/ Boat. Medemblik has a rich sailing history, a nice church, full marina, an awesome castle/ fortification, and though I didn't have time for it because of the itinerary I (with no regret) chose, a nice walking street.
The steam boat trip was really nice too. I highly recommend this combo/ circuit they offer. So great to be on the water with other modern and vintage ships. Another step back in time and a physical link to the country's seafaring history. The boat "Freisland" was very nice in itself too. A good cafe and plenty of space. Just remember to dress in layers for the boat.
After about an hour on the water, you arrive in Enkhuizen's Zuiderzeemuseum's dock. I decided to get off here. This living museum is so wonderful. Restored homes and villages with working shoppes, fresh smoked fish on offer and all types of activities and/ or places to get lost and wander through.
Enkhuizen town is a trip in itself as well. One of the biggest and best surprises for me of the outing. Such a beautiful, friendly and nice town.
Should also be noted that Hoorn has a wonderful amount of sites, especially for those interested in the VOC/ Dutch East-India Company.
All is an easy day-trip from Amsterdam, too. Using the train system/ NS, everything is seamlessly simple.
I can't recommend this experience enough.

Unique in the Netherlands: the tulip excursion is the only location that offers you a tulip tour when the flowers in the field are not blooming yet. You can experience the production process of 7 million tulips every season. During the excursion you will get a guided tour through the greenhouses, bunching room and cold stores. You will enjoy thousands of tulips in the greenhouse (or from mid April until beginning of May in the fields), and you will see how the tulips are bunched and prepared to go to the flower auction. The excursion starts with a Power Point presentation in the typical Dutch coffee room. The tulip excursion is open upon reservation, from end of December until beginning of May, for groups from 20-50 persons. It is also possible to reserve coffee/tea with fresh pie or a lunch buffet.

This is a very interesting visit to a large family run tulip farm, complete with processing and shipping facilities. Walk into the fields for photos; learn about the workings of a tulip farm; see processing operations up close. Allow approximately 3 hours for a relaxed visit.

This is a former pumping station to keep the polder dry. It still has its original steam engine, but there are many other steam engines to be seen. Some will be operated during demonstrations. There is also a blacksmith, and outside there is a dredging boat and many more machines. Currently there is also an exhibition with Meccano constructions. In the tourist season there are handy transport options to the steam tram and ferry stop in Medemblik.

Zuiderzee Museum - Story of a rich culture The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen revives the stories of people who once lived on the shores of the Zuiderzee. See, hear, taste and smell everyday life around the Zuiderzee as it was before the Afsluitdijk (IJsselmeer Barrier Dam) changed the sea into the IJsselmeer in 1932. The Zuiderzee Museum is oriented toward the history, the current situation and the future of this area. It focuses upon the themes of water, crafts and communities. This story is visualized in the Outdoor Museum with historical buildings, and in the Indoor Museum with thematic Exhibitions.

The museum is splendid, a hidden gem, with a huge range of fascinating things to see and do. And there are helpful and well-informed stewards, one of whom in particular had volumes of information about the history of the area its people. Sadly one other pair of stewards were too busy talking to each other to notice us or other visitors. Maybe they'd had a particularly busy day...
We only had a couple of hours to explore the enormously varied and interesting site and could easily have spent the whole day there. Hopefully we'll do so next time?
We did get to sample warm and freshly salmon smoked, delicious and quite the best I've tasted. And then we found the cafe and its apple pie and cream...
We had a great time and look forward to another visit, hopefully on a similarly sunny day.

This small museum offers paintings by old masters in charming historic period rooms from the 17th and 18th century.I enjoyed the various historic interiors and the small garden.
In 2005 17th century oil-paintings and silverware were stolen from the museum and some paintings were returned after 11 years when they turned up in Kiev,Ukraine.
The statue of Jan Pieterzoon Coen (founder of the Dutch East Indies colony)in front of the museum has been updated with a plaque remembering his cruel oppresion of the natives of the Indonesian Banda Islands during his reign.
