For our particular visit of the Theater we arrived as part of a City tour with a cruise ship.
The story about this woman is fascinating and I must say I am going to look up more about her. Her "husband" was a terrible person who took advantage of her upon her death.
The theater is beautiful and definitely reminds you of the "old world" .
This theatre was built in the 1870s and reconstructed over the years. It is a classic, a jewel. The stage is deep, designed for opera productions. it is located at historic Plaza Machado. When you visit you will also see art exhibits. Go to the second floor to learn about its history and about the opera singer Angela Peralta.
There are restrooms here and we did pay an entry fee of $1.50 usd per person to our tour guide?!?!

Having been to Mazatlan multiple times, the grandeur of the Plaza Machado and the Centro Historico in general never gets old. In fact I feel like it has gotten nicer, cleaner and a bit more 'gentrified' overall. To visit on Christmas night and be part of the multitude of families walking through for shopping, dining, and posing by the large illuminated Christmas tree was very magical. Its one of those places you 'have to' visit when you are in town.

I still can not imagine the number of work hours dedicated to build this bridge, the view on top of the bridge is scary but amazing. The landscapes to get there and return are awesome! It needs a good rest area to fully enjoy it.

Happened across this gem while a woman was singing during mass. What a treat. Her voice had the entire congregation hypnotized including me. Beautiful church in the heart of old Maz.

We arrived in time to see the the last of the fishermen bringing in their boats. Their boats are not large, usually a couple of men per boat. We watched them getting them out of the water and to higher ground using logs to roll the boats up...a live and learn moment for us.
One of the local told us how they and restaurant chefs arrive early in the AM to buy the daily catch directly from the fisherman. Buying fish directly from the fisherman would be the start of a great meal.

Toured with Daniel of Blue Foot adventures. He slithered is through a brilliant market where we enjoyed the best tortillas ever with Betsy (Beatrice) and her daughter and granddaughter nestled in a corner (literally a corner with a walkway through it). Handmade tortillas, locally sourced (by the granddaughter, we caught her negotiating later in our visit!) beans and vegetables made for sublime burritos. Let’s get the Tex out of TexMex.
Beautiful streets and colourful buildings with some fantastic places to relax and eat and sit and people watch, this is a great place to come to.

Walking or bicycling along the Malecon is a wonderful experience. Mazatlan is preparing for an International Tourism Conference and is updating many areas of town. The Malecon is one of those places. New brick along the entire length will makes it enjoyable to use attracting people throughout the day and evening. At different points there are sculptures and nearer southern end is where the cliff diving is done. There are many bars and restaurants along the way. At dusk this is a good place to watch the sunsets. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that the construction work was still in progress while I was there and there weren't many opportunities for shade along the route. They are adding some few man-made shade points and when the construction is done it should be perfect.

Others in our party said the coconut shrimp is the best in Mazatlan. All the food was good. The service was excellent. And tasting the flavored tequilas was a blast!

We enjoyed our hike up to the lighthouse. Spectacular views of the city. They are doing an outstanding job building a beautiful walk way in very dangerous, HOT conditions. I would suggest taking an extra bottle of water, a Sandwich or snack of any kind for the men working to make this a comfortable, beautiful walk up. Take water, wear sunscreen and a hat!
