What a fabulous collection of Militaria !! We spent hours looking at all the exhibits ..make sure you have plenty of time to see it all ..there is 3 floors of it !! The volunteers who run it do an excellent job ..on the day we were there a lovely lady was playing the piano..I was singing along as I looked at everything...I knew so many of the tunes even though many of them were wartime hits ... just wonderful !!

Went to use the toilets and found a drug dealer and his watcher doing business outside. They were intimidating people using the toilets to scare them off. A queue formed as one girl complained that she didn’t have enough money and the dealer was telling her what she could have. All overheard from inside the toilet!
This was all at 3 pm on a weekday.
I don’t recommend going anywhere near here.

A small native zoo in Maryborough Queensland. Many native parrots, kangaroos, wallabies, snakes, lizards, and other native animals, Dingoes. Recently renovated and improved. Low entry fees, photo opportunities with native animals. Dingo and reptile encounters cost $5 reptile & $10 Dingo encounter were you get to get up close with them .

I have taken my children to this sanctuary on a number of occasions. It is very interactive, they can feed and pet small to medium sized kangaroos and wallabies, all of which are gentle enough with the children. There is a small but good display of snakes, lizards and turtles as well as lots of emus and larger kangaroos in an enclosed space for viewing, as opposed to petting. There are also a number of bird enclosures, and one of these is large and can be walked through. There are some birds you can hand feed in here. Watch out for the golden pheasant though! It is an aggressive little critter and attacked my son. They only have small beaks, so it wasn't overly painful but a bit scary for him. If only I'd had the foresight to film it, I'd be winning awards for funniest home videos for years...

I now live in Maryborough. This medium sized regional town is full of surprises. The history is obvious and delightful. The old buildings are still intact - Bond Store, Port Office (a restaurant downstairs and a sometimes art/craft gallery upstairs in the original residence), a brilliant military museum,shops and their street frontages with original pressed steel ceilings, lots (and lots) of pubs, the best collection of beautiful old Queenslander homes.
But the best find is Brendan and Geraghty's Store.Whew!!! You walk in the door and childhood memories flood all over and through you. Mr Geraghty walked out of his store in the early 1970s (I think). He left everything as it was that morning - even his cuppa on the desk beside the paperwork he was doing! So we from the 21st century see how things were in the early days of last century up to the seventies. All the original products are on the shelves - Persil, Arnotts tins, Sunlight soap, the barrels that brought household China. And behind the shop the nostalgia intensifies with the views of the family's houses on each side and two gigantic trees enabling shade for the visitor to stand and imagine themselves back as a kid playing marbles in the dust, clambering over and along the slip rail fence, climbing the trees. And giggling as customers or employees caught short duck out to the privy. This place is somewhere you could spend at least half a day. Wonderful!!!!

Maryborough is justly proud of its heritage. There are plenty of places of historical interest around the city. The statue is a bit small to be life sized but is cute. Maryborough hosts a Mary Poppins festival each year in June.

Staffed by lovely local volunteers who are ready to share their knowledge with you. The Bond Store has some great interactive Exhibitions and valuable information teaching you about the history of this grand old town, Maryborough. We were lucky to be there at a time when the cannon was fired by the Town Crier so that was really cool to see as well! If visiting town, this is a must see. Indulge in some of the local fares on offer in the retail section and help support a local business. Also, we received a taste of a wonderful port made by Moffattdale Ridge wineries, so nice we bought a bottle to take. Highly recommend this experience.

This relatively small statue standing forlornly on its own is somewhat underwhelming. I heard other statues are/were to be included and maybe that will add to the impact. Don't drive out of your way to visit this unless it has some significant meaning to you personally.

Visited Customs House as part of the Portside Precinct tour (great price to visit 3 museums), and this was the stand out of the three. Eris walked us around and gave us a very informative talk about everything! He was excellent at engaging the kids (8 & 10), and there were plenty of interactive opportunities for the kids which kept them thoroughly engaged. They loved the curiosity cabinet and writing a letter to Mary Poppins.
Well worth stopping in and having a look around. Make sure the kids try on an outfit and get dressed up for their passport into Australia and check out the underside of the bunk beds.
