We popped by this afternoon on impulse - despite no notice the staff were happy to help us out with a distillery tour, which was entertaining and informative, particularlywhen it came to discussing ingredients used and the challenges of distilling in Australia vs other countries. Food was lovely (the scones are absolutely delicious!), and the quality of the spirits on offer excellent - the Turkish delight liqueur in particular i can easily see needing a repeat order. The surroundings are great - this is not an operation where quality has been skimped on at all, and it's extremely picturesque. Staff were all helpful and cheerful - my father and I had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to our next trip when we can spend more than a couple of hours here!

This is a great place to visit if you have animal lovers in the family. We spent over 2 hours there. My wife and daughter found the baby deer, goat and calf especially affectionate and friendly. The Clydesdale and roos were my favorites. Well worth a visit and good value for money for families.

Unfortunately, we only had time to pop in briefly as we had a tight schedule. The gardens are absolutely beautiful with different areas which are kept immaculate and pristine ie the rose garden, vegetable garden, fountains, pools etc. The main building is lovely too. We were reminded of Italian properties and the gardens had an Italian feel to them too. If you’re in the area, definitely go!

The cafe here seems very popular, and with good reason. Sitting in the garden, we had coffee and scones, which were excellent. Take the time to wander the grounds, lots of beautiful flowers and animals to see. A well-organized shop offers tastings of all of their jams, sauces and fruit wines - all very tempting. There is a play area for kids, pets seem to be welcome, and the car park is large. Worth the 20 minute drive from Margaret River.

Leeuwin Estate

Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world’s finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first commercial vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1981 “Art Series” Chardonnay. Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellardoor and art gallery. The Leeuwin Restaurant is open Friday - Monday. Bookings are recommended.

During our Margaret River stay we called into Leeuwin Estate to enjoy a wine tasting. It looked so beautiful the restaurant we asked if it was possible to sit outside for lunch. The friendly gentlemen asked us to wait 5 minutes whilst they sorted a table for us. We sat in the shade outside on the upper deck and enjoyed very professional service from our waiters. We both enjoyed the entree of scallops and our mains along with some wine from the estate. It was fabulous sitting enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The food isn’t cheap but a wonderful experience to indulge and enjoy.
