It is the only comune of the region on the Tyrrhenian coast and because of its beautiful scenery and coastline it has been called "the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian". Just fantastic! The view must be one of the most beautiful in the world. The water is deep blue and green in places, with a large natural swimming pool surrounded by rocks. We went there towards the end of September and we relaxed under beautiful olive trees, with few people around and, best of all, no music! BLISS!

La Secca is a very pretty beach with reasonably good service at the cafe where the food is freshly prepared standard fare. Beware the sun beds are very close together as the beach is small and because it is very safe for children you can be close to some noisy, hot and very tired neighbours.

We walked here by foot from Maratea, it took us about 2,5 hours each direction. In 35 degrees. Not so smart perhaps, but as long as you have water with you. The very last bit is by bus, up by a manmade bridge-road, so to speak. The statue itself is very impressive, the second largest statue of Christ in the world. Up near the statue is a church, a restaurang, a souvenir shop, toilets and a café. If you're in Maratea you should definitely visit, the views from up here is outstanding.

The black volcanic sand was something we'd never experienced before. Very hot when the sun hit it. The beach was lovely, the water amazing shades of blue. Concession available and unbrella's could be rented. Was there late in the season, so it wasn't too busy when were were there. Water was great!

The climb up to view the Christo will take your breath away, particularly if your more accustomed to life on the prairies as we are. The winding road, that goes out over the side of the mountain, and the old village at the top are incredible. You have to ask yourself, who looked at the top of that mountain a thousand years ago and said....we need to build something way up there...lets start hauling the rocks! The old church, the grounds and the ancient infrastructure are all awe inspiring to experience.

Tre spiagge una piccolina due piu' grandi. Ci sono intrattenimenti per adulti e bambini con acquagym. Non accaltarissime specie quella piccola (l'unica interamente privata) piu' vicina alla parte della scogliera interessante per chi ama stare in acqua con mascgera e pinne. Un bravo al servizio offerto dai bagnini sempre attenti e disponibili e delle ragazze dell'acquagym. Meriterebbe 5 stelle se non fosse per il parcheggio a pagamento (5 euri al giorno non molto) selvaggio (permesso fuori dagli spazi) senza un minimo di controllo di discesa in spiaggia dalla stazione di Maratea marina.

If you are going up to this location just to see the Church, try and check before you go to avoid being disappointed if it is not open. It is a great little church with the relic of St. Biaggio (St. Basil), the patron saint of throats. If you do happen to take a chance and go here, your time will not be wasted if the church is closed. The views are spectacular, there is a decent coffee shop, and it is very beautiful and peaceful,

I don't do Beaches usually as I am beyong sand getting into everything. Visited this one as it's approach down from the main road gave the best view of the beach. I should imagine it's great fro families , as showed by the number there on the day we went.

Località Cersuta di Maratea : in un curva un piccolo cartello ed una freccia sono le uniche indicazioni per questa spiaggia da raggiungere con un percorso accidentato . La strada è cattiva e consente appena il passaggio di due auto . Il parcheggio è obbligato nell'unico spiazzo che precede le scale , altrove non c'è materialmente posto e per "i furbi" ci sono le telecamere(!!) e le multe. Comunque mollati i 5 euro canonici , ti incammini per delle scale ripide a sinistra se vuoi vedere "U nastru" ,altrimenti puoi andare a destra verso una caletta piccola ed affollata . "U nastru" prevede un percorso fatto di scogli, strisce di cemento ,passerelle di legno e scale traballanti ,fino ad una serie di scogli di una roccia levigata ,alcuni dei quali semisommersi e ricoperti di un muschio molto scivoloso che può provocare pericolose cadute. L'accesso finale alla spiaggia ti costringe ad infilarti tra o spuntone di scoglio e una roccia levigata e senza appigli. UN consiglio : se incrociate le capre ,lasciatele stare perché sono suscettibili . I quesito che ti frullerà in testa in tutto il tragitto sarà" Ma chi me lo ha fatto fare?" . Quesito che si scioglierà alla vista d'U Nastru: è una lingua di sabbia nera sotto rocce che cadono a picco uno specchio d'acqua limpido con tutte le variazioni del verde smeraldo. Naturalmente il sole sarà feroce ad una certa ora per cui o siete dotati di un cappello o di un ombrello , oppure resisterete poco . Però -lo garantisco-ne vale la pena
