Lion Country Safari

Rhinos, apes, giraffes and lions roam free in this drive-thru wildlife preserve that also runs a comprehensive conservation program to help replenish endangered species.

We visited Lion Country Safari with our grandchildren, ages 6 and 8. The duest portion of the visit was the drive-through zoo viewing a variety of wild animals in their natural habitats. This portion took about an hour & we were given a CD to play in our car as we drove through at our own pace. This was most interesting and educational. The next portion was more traditonal as we walked through a variety of exhibits of various small animals. Our grandchildren also enjoyed the water slides and splash park. Be sure to purchase tickets online for faster entry and discounts.

The tour we took here was the highlight of our trip. The animals seem well cared for and the tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We were in a group of around 15 - 20 people and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, especially the kids. It was a rare opportunity to get a close-up look at some of the most beautiful animals in the world.

Panther Ridge only operates with private tours, but this is wonderful for you. Expect to have a knowledgeable and pleasant guide who can answer questions about the inhabitants. You simply can't get this close to cats anywhere else. The preserve is aimed at the best for the cats, many of whom are rescues. They obviously are well cared for both physically and mentally.

The tour is a little over an hour and very good.

The four of us went just to hike and explore. We found the Hungryland boardwalk trail, which is a safe area during hunting season, wends it's way trough Cyprus and grassy swamps. We had a fun time, but gun fire in the distance may cause some folks to feel uncomfortable. I took my bike here a couple of months ago, during bow hunting season. I felt safer then, and rode on Stumpers Grade Road for some time. Lots to see of 'wild Florida'.

We went to their Saturday night jumping event. It was a full house, but beautiful horses and riders in the event. It is free admission, you can pay for parking and Valet parking or park at the Dressage center down the road a short distance for free. A van will take you to the event. It is nice to tip the van driver, but that is a personal choice. There are food vendors on the grounds. I would suggest arriving around 5:30 to get a good seat. there will be standing room by 6:00.The place is lovely and well equipped to handle the crowds. The event runs through the month of March and ends the 1st of April. They are international riders participating in the event, all professional and fun to watch. There are other activities a small petting zoo and a card trick fellow to watch outside the arena. It is outside so if it is a cool evening bring a jacket. The seats are stadium seats that are quite comfortable. Try it on a Saturday evening for something different that is free to see.

Calypso Bay Water Park

Reviewed By Petwriter - Jupiter, Florida

The Calypso Bay waterpark is a secret little gem I didn't know about until recently. The prices of the Rapids have gone through the roof, and it is very difficult to take a group of children there with those prices. I was looking for an alternative and was happy to come across this little water park. It is much much smaller than the Rapids but it is also much, much cleaner, and offers pretty much the same amenities, especially for small children. I was very impressed with the staff, And also with how clear and clean the water was.
