Long Island City (LIC) is the westernmost residential and commercial neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. LIC is noted for its rapid and ongoing residential growth and gentrification, its waterfront parks, and its thriving arts community. LIC has among the highest concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio space of any neighborhood in New York City. It is bordered by Astoria to the north; the East River to the west; Hazen Street, 49th Street, and New Calvary Cemetery in Sunnyside to the east; and Newtown Creek—which separates Queens from Greenpoint, Brooklyn—to the south. It originally was the seat of government of the Town of Newtown, and remains the largest neighborhood in Queens. The area is part of Queens Community Board 1, located north of the Queensboro Bridge and Queens Plaza; it is also of Queens Community Board 2 to the south.

We were visiting over Christmas holiday and took a walk down to the park. It is very well kept, clean and felt safe. The Queensborough bridge lights were beautiful with the church bells ringing in the back ground seemed almost magical. Would like to return when it's a bit warmer and stay longer.

I’m not a huge fan of art galleries but I can imagine if this is your thing you will love it. Lots of great displays, sculptures, portraits, landscapes and modern art. Maps available to help navigate this museum with ease. Spent an hour here but you could spend much much longer. Audio guides are available.

A highlight to exploring Astoria Queens is seeing the Noguchi Museum. With an in-depth collection of the Japanese-American sculptor's works, in light-filled warehouse-like spaces, lofts, and in a rock garden. From a perfectly balanced one piece stone fountain to large basalt sculptures and small intricate works, the museum is a peaceful respite and enjoyable. The museum is multi-level. You might need a car or taxi to get here. Nearby are the Socrates Sculpture Park and views of the East River. And Uber or Lyft can take you to the Museum of Moving Image and Kaufman Studios. My family went there out of the way coz we read from a tour book saying it as a top new attractions for families. Man it was so wrong. The place is definitely not kids-friendly. Our kids, 12 and 8, finished the museum in under one hour. There are a few interesting exhibits. But most of museum is boring, dark, spooky, or even scary for children. One video exhibit even has animated porn! Workers there are very unfriendly. Not going back any time soon. And I will NOT recommend it to any friend with kids. Not worth the money and time to get there.

The park is big, with beautiful walkways, scenic views of the city, and lots if green space. There are also lots of things to do, like the zoo, ponds, and wildlife watching (mostly birds). We got food at the little place by the sailboat pond, and it was mediocre. All in all a good park, but I think I need to revisit when the weather is warmer to get the full experience.

The park itself isn't all that amazing - but the views across the river are wonderful. You can see the UN, etc. across the river. I've gone walking here three times and enjoyed it every time. They've left the remnants of its industrial days and they're lots of fun to look through.

Almost the entire space appeared to be closed for rennovation when I visited (sept 2017). A couple of quite interesting items, a few rather dull ones (seriously displaying the building's old boilers with the pipes painted gold?) and one or two which you might either entirely overlook or cannot figure out (a tiny TV screen set into the corridor floor, a block of wood with 5 holes drilled in it - I assume it was an exhibit, not sure).
Perhaps this is an interesting spot when not under construction, but definitely not worth a trip right now.

We were so worried of visibility during this late winter spell, especially considering the hefty entrance fee.
Fortunately it was clear enough to have adequate vistas of iconic Manhattan and especially the amazing Empire State Building. Chrysler building views were partially obscured though.
Did not have to wait too long, I think less than 30 minutes to the top. Best views from 3rd floor of viewing deck.
A bit disorganized with the purchasing of the photos but I think worth the package price for the memories.
