Lasithi (Greek: Λασίθι) is the easternmost regional unit on the island of Crete, to the east of Heraklion. Its capital is Agios Nikolaos, the other major towns being Ierapetra, Sitia and Neapoli. The mountains include the Dikti in the west and the Thrypti in the east. The Sea of Crete lies to the north and the Libyan Sea to the south.

Very nice place and people. If you decide to go here, take a guided tour to get maximum of information. Guides speak English, Russian. A special thanks to Nadia, who was our guide. Received a lot of interesting and useful information.
And if you go there go visit the oldest olive tree in Kavousi (app 29 km).

Some gorges are dry and stony. This is something else: subtropical, green trees and flowers, small stream which did not give trouble to walk (in July!). Few wet paths but if you don´t mind a little mud. There is some up and downs and curves on the path but people in normal cond. manage.
We walked to the waterfall and then turned back. It took about 2 hours with good breaks.
Parking by the main street - some drived the small road about 1 km closer the path start.

Drove to the beach and the taverna booked us a taxi to the start. Went from entrance B.
The B route down to the gorge itself was beautiful and full of spring flowers and some amazing "stink Lily's " the striking purple flowers which Smell a bit like rotting flesh. Great views and you go down of the high up cemetery
Walk itself along the bottom is easy with a few boulders to climb over.
Families could easily do this. With sensible shoes not flip flops and water.
Recommend driving back over the old road over the top of the gorge which we managed in a small hire car with automatic gears. It's a loose gravel road but solid under the wheels. Views are stunning and you get to look down onto the gorge.

Actually it's only 64 meters deep but there are plenty of fish, and the setting is definitely quite photogenic, both at night and day. And there are various cafes, and restaurants and bars to entice the visitor, and plenty of friendly enticers trying hard to tempt you in. We liked it, and we thought the restaurant we were in wasn't too overpriced or touristy. Lucky us! It's worth a visit if you are there.

Really beautiful, moving and interesting trip. One warning - the cafe is insanely expensive so do take refreshments (including plenty of water) with you as there is no where else to buy. A small bottle of water was over £3.
That said, do not be put off, this is a beautiful place and well worth the visit. Not very disabled accessible.
Do take swim things, we loved our dip in the sea, but don’t expect great changing conditions - we’re British though, so no probs changing under a towel!

A delightful stop whilst going to Vrahasi on the Happy Train.
The monastery is both beautiful and tranquil. The exhibits in the small museum are exquisite. Excellent photo opportunities of the buildings themselves and looking down the gorge to the sea.
Leave a few euros whilst you're there to assist in the upkeep!

This not a zoo or a park really this is a working place where extinct or nearly are bred and let back into the wild there's really fun bits not for the faint hearted and some great work taking place here ....it's very well organised and you are told to move along but it's for a reason soooo everyone can enjoy and learn and €5 extra is better than ticket price having an add on if you don't want extra it's still brilliant pretty steep in places but WE LOVED IT

Lovely wide, clean beach with safe, shallow waters. Sunbeds and parasols can be hired for a small fee.
Water sports available and a well stocked snack bar.
The views out and across to the Mountains are spectacular.
Lovely place to spend a day with ample parking if you drive out to it. The beach is also walkable from Agios Nikolaos, and it's a pleasant scenic walk.
