We took the cable car up to the fortress on a rainy day, and found it safe, comfortable, inexpensive, and very well run, with continuous service. Bring ID if wanting the senior discount. The views from the top are sensational, and the small restaurant nearby a nice convenience. Best of all, however, was the stonework and grounds of the fortress-very nice!

Burg Lahneck

Reviewed By Linda C - Fort Myers Beach, Florida

We took a day excursion from the Upper Rhine around Remagen to visit Marksburg Castle. Right after we left Koblenz and before we got to Marksburg we saw a ruined, Gothic castle up on the hill. We learned that it was Lahneck Castle. I could imagine Sleeping Beauty asleep in the tower. I could also picture Prince Charming with a sword in hand climbing up the mountainside, hacking away at all that greenery. We didn't get very close but it will always remain in our minds a romantic vision on the Rhine Road.

Marksburg Castle

Reviewed By Joe Q - Virginia Beach, Virginia

This 13th century castle has been meticulously maintained in it's original condition to maintain it's historical accuracy. The castle is an engineering marvel and a defensive masterpiece sitting on a mountain top with clear views of the Rhine River and it's approaches. The views from the ramparts is spectacular. The military paraphernalia throughout the castle is authentic and for a history buff wonderful to look at. The down side to all this authenticity is that if you are mobility challenged or walking is difficult, this is not a tour for you. The cobblestone walkway up to the castle is steep and if wet very slippery. The steps into the castle are the original hewed stone steps carved out of the Mountains rock and over the centuries these stairs have become jagged, pitted, slippery and unwieldy for a person with shaky mobility. But if you want to venture the walk...this is a must see on any visit to the Black Forest Region of Germany.

Die Ruppertsklamm

Reviewed By VAlettah - Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Ruppertsklamm is a short, yet lovely forest road mostly through a small creek. You need hiking shoes or at least some stable sport shoes for it, and prepare to get mud on them after rainy days. At the end there is a shelter house where you can take a break before heading back towards the parking place. It is nice, sometimes it gives the feeling of a real mountain hike, but you absolutely don't have to be a true hiker to enjoy it. Acording to informations at the beginning of the road the whole route takes 2 hours, one upwards and one downwards, I went up in half an hour and I'm not much a hiker either.
Cheile Turzii in Romania is way much spectacular :)

Schloss Stolzenfels

Reviewed By gentbrugg - Moscow

First, to reach the castle by bus from the Central station is relatively convenient. Second, it looks well-preserved. In fact, its share has fallen a lot of misfortunes. But in the 19th century, the city Koblenz gifted it to the Emperor Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who restored, repainted and overbuilt it, adding an internal garden and neo-Gothic chapel with two towers and made a completely luxurious interiors. The view to Rhine from here is amazing. On the opposite bank Lahn river flows into Rhine and is located another famous castle Lanek.

Freibad Lahnstein

Reviewed By camping_addict1 - Leeds, United Kingdom

We were staying at the campsite next door and decided to spend a couple of hours at the pool. This turned into a whole afternoon.
The pools themselves are fabulous, being very large, spotlessly clean and offering something for everyone. The 1m, 3m and 5m diving boards and 1m and 3m springboards are open at different times (always at least one of them open) and there is plenty of room in the 'deep end' for some serious swimming. The play area is enormous and is still deep enough to have a good swim but also has a great water slide and a couple of Fountains. There's also a baby pool with a slide, although we didn't pay much attention to this.
When you want a break from swimming it's lovely to sunbathe in the huge grassed areas (some big trees dotted around if you prefer shade) and there are loungers available to hire.
The cafe offers basic snacks (hot dogs, chips, etc) plus drinks and ice creams and there are plenty of tables on the patio area.
An absolutely brilliant place to go on a hot day.

Deutsches Eck (German Corner)

If you visit Koblenz, you definitely want to stop here. It's interesting to see where the two rivers meet and learn a bit about the statue. I wouldn't make a special trip to Koblenz just to see the statue/ German Corner. But, of course, go see it if you are in town!
