Whistling Straits Golf Course - Straits and Irish

Beautiful, well-tended course soon to be one of the best championship golf courses in the world.

Reviewed By PutterandFork - Chicago, United States

I can't say enough about the experience at Whistling Straits that a buddy and I had in early September. We had an 8am tee time on a Sunday and from booking, to drop off, to post-round shopping in the pro shop, we had an exceptional experience! The bag drop was a buzz of activity, and check in was a cinch. The driving range is a short walk and the putting green steps away from the starter's podium. A nice touch with a pre round chat on course history and the gift of a WS tees/markers bag and bag tag. We lucked out with calm, cloudy conditions with temps in the 60's and winds 8-10mph and a great caddie. Ask for Trace Gardner-- a good guy with a terrific demeanor/sense of humor, deep knowledge of the course, and a quick read on your game. He coached shots brilliantly and I couldn't have carded an 86 without him. Course conditions were pristine, with some of the best fairways I've ever played, with quick and true greens. The course can be both spectacular and punishing and I was surprised to have lost only 2 balls all day. Take in the 4.5 hour walk and the beauty of Lake Michigan, Pete Dye's gem, the birds, the sheep, the crickets, and the occasional shouts of joy/disgust. If you agree that value is defined by, "what you get for what you pay for", Whistling Straits is a great value, even at just over $600 (including caddie tip), and a round that I'll never forget.

Just played Blackwolf Run yesterday. Great condition, challenging, need a forecaddie for sure, and just plain fun! One the most scenic courses I’ve ever played-runs along trout streams and beautiful Wisconsin woods. Saw eagles, deer, etc. really lucked out with weather. A destination experience.

Kohler Waters Spa

I visited the Kohler waters spa this past week for a massage, wrap, and pedicure. I was looking forward to a day of relaxation in a peaceful setting, but this spa went way above and beyond that. Every staff member I encountered was kind, helpful, and attentive. My services were fantastic (the wrap especially was so decadent!) and the estheticians who worked with me (Tiffany, Beth, and Emily) were wonderful. The spa itself was so peaceful, with lots of comfortable lounge chairs, refreshments available everywhere, and the sound of water always present. I hope I can return soon and would recommend this spa to anyone!

The Waelderhaus

Situated among the trees on a high bluff overlooking the winding Sheboygan River, The Waelderhaus stands as a tribute to the tradition of Bregenzerwald (forest of Bregenz) Province of Vorarlberg, Austria. This picturesque mountain valley on the western border of Austria was the ancestral homeland of the Kohler family. Located in Kohler, Wisconsin, Waelderhaus, or "a house in the woods," is a tribute to the architecture peculiar to this Alpine area, and stands as a museum of minute detail in the perfect marriage of artistry and superb craftsmanship. The interior is replete with rich carvings, wrought-iron craftsmanship and stained glass. Austrian furniture and tapestries also grace the hall. Kaspar Albrecht, a talented sculptor and architect from Munich, spent two years designing and directing the building of The Waelderhaus. He also created the carvings, woodcuts, reliefs, and iron and pewter work that enhance the building, and personally designed and supervised all phases of decor.

My wife and I have gone by The WAELDERHAUS many times but have never stopped. This time we did and enjoyed a Gingerbread House festival that was going on. Schools from around the area ranging from Pre-school to Grade 12 had made different gingerbread presentations that were Outstanding!! Wonderful!

Wow! We took our toddler here and were so impressed. They are only open for pumpkins during the month of October. Do not let the muddy conditions of our current weather deter you. You can either buy a pumpkin from within a shelter- tons of selection and HUGE pumpkins to or battle the mud like us and pick out your own pumpkin. There is no cost to walk around and look at the animals. They have goats, turkeys, lots of birds, donkeys, ponies, and horses and more I am missing I am sure. You can feed the animals for $1- animals are friendly. There are a of awesome cut outs where you and your family can take great pictures. Some for the little ones too. They even have rental for birthdays, etc where they have a bouncy house and pony rides all indoor. We learned they offer sleigh rides- whether permitting too. Can't wait til next time.

My girlfriends and I came to Kohler for a "Mom-cation," and were underwhelmed with the dining options available at the resort. I stumbled upon The Blind Horse Winery and took a chance. We all love wine, but I am particularly skeptical when a midwestern location claims to be a "Napa valley experience" - wow! I underestimated this place! Blind Horse did NOT disappoint! The wine was very good, the ambience was incredible, and Jacob was amazing and took such great care of us! Our reservation was at 8:15, and unfortunately the party before us took their sweet time and we were not seated for dinner until over an hour later. This could have been a downside at any other restaurant, especially during Covid. However, we went to their Winery building where there is a BEAUTIFUL space and bar. We all did fights and tastings - their Chardonnay is like Rombauer had a little baby - it was delicious. By the time we were finished, our table in the cellar was ready - which I HIGHLY recommend! It is such a special space, and the story about the history of the property was really beautiful to listen to. The food was OUTSTANDING. Cheers to the chefs! The service, food, ambience, wine .... everything was just amazing. Thank you! If I could give them ten stars, I would. (And I'm picky...)
