We literally stumbled on Kashihara Shrine by mistake. We intended to rent bikes in Asuka but they were too expensive, so opted to walk around instead. We followed the signs from Asuka station. Kashihara Shrine is about a ten minute walk from the station.
The grounds are massive and well maintained. The temple itself is relatively modern, but still beautiful. It is surrounded by acres of forested park.
Would we have made a special trip to see it? Probably not. But we were happy to have stumbled across it.

今井町散策資料として 【今井まちなみ交流ｾﾝﾀｰ〔華甍〕】にて《歴史街道 ならかしはら今井町》と《今井町いらすと・ﾏｯﾌﾟ 今井町並み散歩（平成29年5月13～21日開催ｲﾍﾞﾝﾄ用》の2種入手出来ますが 単独で散策時での道案内には《今井町いらすと・ﾏｯﾌﾟ（添付 写真参照）》をお薦めします。 《今井町いらすと・ﾏｯﾌﾟ》には 地図内に今井町内の代表的な建築物がｲﾗｽﾄで記載されているので 散策しようとするｴﾘｱや建築物を簡単に見つけることが出来るからです。

今井町の西の端に建つ、1650年に建てられた、今井町で最も古い住宅。こちらの住宅の写真が、観光パンフレットに登載されているなど、今井町のランドマークともいえる住宅です。内部見学には事前予約が必要ですが、是非内部見学をおすめします。広々とした土間や、高い天井と太い梁。重厚な部屋のつくり。一見して普通の住宅でないことがわかります。商家ではなく、武家のつくり。係の方の説明で、今井町の歴史、今西家の歴史、役割、建物のつくりなどがよくわかります。

The museum is located alongside of the shrine park directly north of Kashihara railway station about a kilometer or so and has a display of many artifacts and the history of the area. There is an amazing amount of civilization uncovered here – it must have been a fertile plain to live on. The funerary ceramics recovered from the kofun grave mounds were Jomon in age in the Neolithic probably, and were really interesting including clay figurines and some huge urn-like things called haniwa which were placed around the grave for protection of the spirit of the dead.
A kindly older man who was a museum attendant chatted and was keen to update me and in excellent English too. I thought that he may have been an ex-academic.
I saw some nice little model clay Jomon horses and resolved to buy one at a craft shop in the town before we left as a reminder of Kashihara.

今井町散策される際 こちらで入手出来る資料は2種類（《歴史街道 ならかしはら今井町》と《今井町いらすと・ﾏｯﾌﾟ 今井町並み散歩（平成29年5月13～21日開催ｲﾍﾞﾝﾄ用》があり、内部に展示してある《今井町1/200模型》とを見比べ 町全体のｲﾒｰｼﾞを持たれることをお薦めします。 《今井町1/200模型 添付 写真参照》を眺めていると【河合家住宅（河合酒造）】の西側にひときわ大きな邸宅があるので ｽﾀｯﾌの方にお聞きすると【高木家・本家住宅】とのことで、 現在 残っている【高木家住宅】が分家であることを理解できます（現在 模型にある【高木家・本家住宅】は 火事による焼失の為 残っていないとのこと）。又 こちらで入手出来るﾊﾟﾝﾌﾚｯﾄ《歴史街道 ならかしはら 今井町》の中に掲載されている【上田家住宅】の説明文に [今西家、尾崎家と並び惣年寄をつとめていました]とあり、【尾崎家住宅】はどこにあるのですか？とｽﾀｯﾌの方にお聞きすると、【尾崎家住宅】は現在無く、 現在の[珈琲さとう]の位置にあったとのことです。 又 こちらの建物の《玄関の屋根》と2階《窓》は美しいので こちらを訪問される機会あれば 忘れずに眺めることをお薦めします。

今回は今井町を訪れた時に耳成山を訪れました。ふもとは公園になっていて池があり、その池に映る山の姿が本当にきれいでした。また、八木町の八木札の辻交流館の２階からはガイドの方がここから耳成山と畝傍山が見えるんですよと、窓を開けて案内してくださいました。今は山のてっぺんのほうしか見えませんでしたが、古代の人が平原にぽんぽんと山があるのに神秘を感じたのはわかるような気がしました。

なんか、そのまま町ごと残ってるんです！！！！まるでタイムスリップしたかのよう。ヨーロッパに行くとたとえばパリの近くのプロヴァンみたいに中世の街がそのまま残ってるような感じってありますけど、日本ではあまり例がないのでは？ 江戸時代の終わりぐらいからそのまま時間が止まった町並みです。 月曜日は豊田記念館以外はほとんどお休みですが、街並みセンターや素敵なカフェも あるかんじです。ゆっくり流れる時間に身を任せるつもりでどうかゆっくりお過ごしください。そこにあるだけいてくれるだけでありがたい町。私はとても静かに感動いたしました。 As for this town, a rich scenery from the Edo Era is preserved. The quiet, beautiful, special atmosphere of this town will make the man who visits impressed so much. I was moved so deeply.

こちらの建物の見所は隠居部屋として増築された蔵前座敷になると思いますが 江戸末期［嘉永3年(1850）］の建物です《主屋は江戸中期(1661～1750)》。蔵内を座敷としている建物はあちこちで鑑賞することが出来ますが 蔵の前を隠居部屋としているのは 隠居はしても 蔵は自由にさせないと言う意思表示とは思いますが このような建物は珍しく、且つ 休館日である月曜日（祝日の場合は翌日）を除けば 09:00～17:00（但し12:00～13:00は閉館）に訪問すれば 自由に内部見学が出来ると言う意味で 今井町では価値ある1軒です。

仕事で宮崎を訪れ、神武天皇が日向からお舟出になられた地を訪れ、ついに大和の地まで私も参りました。
橿原神宮の北側で近鉄畝傍御陵前駅から近く、結構歩きました。
橋を渡り玉砂利を踏みしめ、少し右へ曲がると御陵が見えて参りました。
あまり華美ではなく、包み込むような優しいさのあるご陵です。

After visiting the Kashihara Shrine, I visited this small temple where the founder of Shingon School of Buddhism started his own way of explaining the teaching of Buddha.
The temple is compact and easy to walk around. Very refreshing experience after visiting many crowded temples in Kyoto. If one comes to the Kshihara Shrine, this is the must visit place.
