Top 10 Things to do in Interlaken, Switzerland

December 23, 2017 Jana Sager

If you’re after a winter sports holiday, you can’t find a more gorgeous place to do it than Interlaken, the popular Swiss resort town. There’s superlative skiing, toboggan rides, miles of sledding tracks (which, like the ski slopes, vary in difficulty), snowboarding… all with amazing views of the mountains. In summer, hike among the ibex at nearby Neiderhorn, or shop for watches in the town’s boutiques.

Upstreamflyfishing

Guided fly fishing adventures in Switzerland & fly fishing lessons. Based in Wilderswil by Interlaken. Fish for mountain trout and large pike in the Swiss Alps. Your flyfishing guide, Pascal Zeller, looks forward spending an adventurous day on the water with you. Tight Lines !!!

My husband and I had a great time pike fishing with Pascal in Interlaken. Pascal was very quick to reply to my emails, which made it easy and conveneinet for me to plan. He picked us up, and took us to his boat, which was also very convenient. He is a very knowledgeable guide and he knows the sport of pike fishing extremely well. If you choose to do this, I would DEFINITLEY recommend taking a pike fishing lesson before going for a half day (or full day) of fishing if you are inexperienced and have never been pike fishing before. Also, I would be sure to wear layers, and bring a pullover and a jacket. Once you get moving quickly on the boat or when you are in the shade, the air can be a bit chilly. My husband fished from about 8am-2pm and we were able to catch two pike. The views from the lake are unbeatable!

They kept this cave in such condition as it would have been open to the public 50 and more years ago. Simple, clear, o crazy lighting and stuff that distract from the simple feeling of being deep inside the mountain (you go in about 850m). The original saga that a monk used to live there in a cell, that he killed the dragon of the cave, and that a monastery used to be there, gives some additional perspective on long gone history and tradition. They have a small museum on the cave and cave explorations as well, which is neatly done and enjoyable. Can recommend as a nice activity with kids, and even on a rainy day, if you are in the area.

Niederhorn

Reviewed By j1954g - Tetbury, United Kingdom

This is a review of the Niederhorn itself and not the restaurant at the summit.
I'd visited this area before but never been up the cable car to the Niederhorn - what a lovely place this was, in warm hazy sunlight, with wonderful views across the whole chain of Bernese Alps, Interlaken, and Lake Thun. There are also views over the nearby Justis Valley from the summit of the mountain (in the other direction), but be careful as, although the edge is fenced off, there is a long sheer drop down.
Lots of paragliders taking off and soaring against the fabulous backdrop of the Alps.
The Niederhorn can be accessed from Interlaken either by taking a postbus to Beatenberg or a bus to Beatenbucht and then the funicular to Beatenberg. From Beatenberg the cable car goes up in two stages and there is a restaurant at both the summit and the halfway stage at Vorsass. We found extremely friendly cows at Vorsass! There is a discount on the cable car if you have a Swiss Travel Pass.

The site is free to get in and open at all times. The walk there is picturesque walk there too.
There are also other free ruined Castles in the vicinity, including Restiturm, Rothenfluh (very close by) and Weissenau.

Harder Kulm

Reviewed By Hotrod_Hammer - Virginia

Harder Kulm is a must-see attraction in Interlaken! The funicular train is an adventure in itself, then the view from the top of the mountain is breathtakingly gorgeous! There is a panoramic view of Lake Brienz, Interlaken and Lake Thun... not to mention the gorgeous Jungfrau mountain range: Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful views in the world. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch at the Harder Kulm panoramic restaurant as well. The food was delicious but the views were the best! The Harder Kulm funicular train station is just a short walk from the Interlaken Ost train station. Be sure to wear walking shoes, as the waking path from the funicular station to the lookout and restaurant is not paved and it is on an incline (not ideal for strollers). This excursion is highly recommended!

We read all the reviews for Daniel and we have to say that he fully deserves the 5 star ratings. Daniel himself is a lovely person, very friendly and accommodating. He is a local so knows all the best routes and views to show you the real Switzerland. My husband drove our ATV and I was the passenger. This was brilliant as it meant we got to share the experience together and I could take lots of photos and videos along the routes.
We did the Swissness tour which took 3 hours 40 minutes in total. We didn't want it to end!
We did local roads up the mountain, saw the Waterfalls, visited a cheese farm to see how Swiss cheese is made (you can taste it fresh!) then we had an amazing Swiss brunch in a beautiful restaurant, hosted by a lovely couple. Top tip: buy a big slice of cheese from the farm or the restaurant you have brunch in as it's MUCH cheaper than the shops, plus it's truly organic. Beautiful!
Overall, we would absolutely recommend Daniel's FunRentals ATV tours. A true must do whilst in Interlaken.
Thank you Daniel!!!!

It's wonderful and must do thing to see the beaty of Interlaken flying over the lake and the entire city. Twin paragliding took my last minute booking, scheduled the pick-up from hotel. My pilot David is professional, experienced and good person. We flew over to clouds and did jiggling in the air that added a lot of excitement during the flight.
We had a smooth landing too and packed the stuff together.
