Indian Valley Mine National Historic Site

The main cabin, which contains the gift shop, and the assay building at Indian Valley Mine has some of the oldest structures built on the Turnagain Arm, and are listed as a National Historic Site. Indian Valley Mine offers visitors the opportunity to learn gold panning and browse through two historic cabins built in the early 1900's a small museum and gift shop, or simply sit back on one of our benches and take in the panoramic view of the Turnagain Arm.

For the $1 entry fee, you can't beat the half hour guided tour of the original settlers cabin and his workshop. The gift shop is quaint and well priced. Definitely take the time to do a bit of gold panning. It's fun and very informative. The guide takes the time to show you through the whole experience.

We had totally planned for something else but the weather caused us to reevaluate. We were not disappointed! If we were going to get wet anyway then why not do it on a river. We were welcomed immediately and made to feel comfortable from the get go. Then Tommy and Popcorn took over and gave us an efficient and effective safety seminar. Equipment is top notch. Then we shot three canyons of rapids! Exhilarating and exciting. Always felt in good hands with our two guides (tip them!!!). Two adults and three young men and all of us enjoyed this experience. Riding class IV and V rapids in Alaska is a bucket list item. Don't let this get past you. Highly recommend this outfit and while the other guides are solid I'm sure, Tommy and Popcorn were the best and cool bros!

Turnagain Gallery

Wood sculptures, jewelry, metal art, log furniture, Custom Handcrafted Log Home Builder

This is an amazing place. Chainsaw carving artist Jordan Anderson is working in the yard, carving the most amazing garden and indoor statues and furniture, ever. Huskies, bucks, moose, bears and even an octopus. You can watch him work (well, at least he didn't say anything or threw stuff at us, while we were staring at him in action) and it's just magic what he does with a chainsaw. The animals are so real, like they froze in their motion.

In the store there are also a lot of pieces of furniture carved from wood. Statues and other objects, even smaller ones. The building is also beautiful and a cute dog is greeting you welcome.

I'd absolutely visit again if passing by.

We provide all gear, safety equipment and snacks for the day (coffee, hot water, tea). Bring your camera for some local wildlife encounters and a great day on the water!

We were watching salmon jump on the Russian River this morning when a tourist told us about an amazing salmon fishing trip he took the day before on the Kenai River. When we saw the flier for Angle 45 adventures advertising salmon and trout fishing, we called them up to see if they could take is the next day. They could, were very friendly on the phone and booked us right away. However, when we called a half hour later to ask about a directions email and whether Angle 45 adventures packed up the salmon we caught to ship to our home, they explained that the salmon were not running where they boated, and so we would be fishing only for catch and release trout. Since what we were excited about was the experience of catching salmon in Alaska and shipping at home, we canceled the trip. The owner, Jason, sent a confirmation email refunding the booking promptly. I was impressed with the business' honesty.

We had the great fortune to travel to Alaska this summer as part of a special family reunion. There were 20 of us, including 10 grandchildren ranging from 7 years through college aged. We are still dreaming about and cherishing the many memories of our travels that were led by our stalwart tour guides,Todd and Patrick, from Adventures Alaska. We had 5 days to visit this incredible state and wow did we cover a lot of ground (and sea). Each day was filled to the brim (thought not overfull to the point of exhaustion!). A favorite day was being exposed to the wilderness of Denali National Park through the "Kantishna Experience" - a 12 hour expedition literally to "the end of the road" that leads into the Park. Another amazing experiencing was viewing the groaning glacier in the Kenai Fjord, similarly primordial and moving a place as Denali. Todd and Patrick were such lovely company - so warm and full of interesting facts and stories about the history of the place - it felt like they were part of our family by the end of the trip.

Alaska is not about luxury but about being in a place to luxuriate in the magnificence of Nature - so our basic accommodations and hearty meals were just right, especially the many opportunities for excellent Alaskan craft beer along the way!

If you are looking for a down-to-earth travel experience, with people who are in the travel business to share their love for the places they take you, then this is the tour group for you.
