The shrine itself is worth a visit in its own right, but it is truly spectacular from mid-February until early-march when the plum blossoms are in full bloom. There is a small playground behind the shrine and several shops and restaurants near the entrance of the shrine. You can also purchase food to feed the pigeons by the pavilion that overlooks the city. 15-20 min walk from Hofu Station.

The garden is lovely. We went when the azaleas were just beginning to bloom, late May/early June would probably have been better to view those. I imagine the garden would be breathtaking in the fall when the leaves change. The house is beautiful on the inside, well worth the extra admission fees!

ツツジの見ごろの時期に行きました。山頂にはちょっとした公園があります。晴れていたので、見晴らしが大変良かったです。山陽新幹線も長く見ることができ、新幹線ファンにとっては意外な穴場かもしれませんよ。

The Mori (Mohri) Museum is on the grounds of the Morishi Gardens (also called Mohri Park).
It is contained in the house, built in 1916, that is made entirely of Japanese cypress and has gold-flake painted panels inside. Lovely! Very peaceful design.
Our guide stated that the property is owned by the historic Mohri (Ohe) family (794 AD - present). The site in Hofu was selected in 1866 and has been in the family since. In 1967, the family opened a museum on the property with 20,000 pieces of art & items of historic significance including some landscape scrolls by the famous artist Seshyu (Sesshu). The exhibits are rotated 6 times/year - so even repeat visits are interesting.

ここは、田園風景の中にある立派な建物がシャレている地元物産販売所DAIDOです。隣は柳花舎という地元で生産された花の集積所です。このDAIDOは元々、地元産の花を安く売っていた販売所（路地を挟んで北隣）でしたが、現代の場所に新築してふれあいステーションとなりました。現在では、生鮮野菜、花類など農産物や、農産物加工品などの産直販売所で、新しく安いものをたくさん売っています。いつ来ても駐車場が一杯で、店内も地元主婦で混んでいます。この付近を通るときは必ず立ち寄ります。ここは道の駅より人気のある場所です。
