Porthkidney Sands

Reviewed By Sandygranny - Sandy, United Kingdom

We only recently ‘discovered’ this lovely unspoilt beach after parking by St Uny’s Church at Lelant and walking down the coastal path (cutting through West Cornwall Golf Club), over a railway bridge and through the sand dunes. The walk took us about twenty minutes.
Porthkidney Beach is a quiet and sheltered beach with spectacular views over St Ives Bay. You can access Carbis Bay Beach at low tide by walking around Hawk’s Point. The South West Coastal Path connects both Beaches if the tide is too high. However, the river is unsuitable for swimming and the currents at this end of the beach can be very dangerous.
Porthkidney Beach is dog friendly – dogs are allowed on the beach all year round but they must be kept on a lead while they are on the footpath from St Uny’s Church.
RNLI Lifeguards are on duty at Porthkidney Beach from early July to early September.
The only downside is that there are no amenities whatsoever on this beach so you will need to take your own food and drink with you, and use the toilet before you go!

Godrevy

This is one of my favourite places to spend an enjoyable couple of hours, with good parking available in the large National Trust car park. A short walk from the car park Northwards to the Cornish Coastal footpath, brings exciting views Eastwards over high cliffs and to a cove below, where seals can usually be seen lounging on the beach or swimming just off-shore. A short walk Westwards along the footpath provides a thrilling view of Godrevy Island, with its iconic lighthouse and views across the bay towards St. Ives, before stopping for an ice cream from the mobile van, and then reaching the excellent beach with its golden sand and rolling surf, with a cafe at the end, in which to enjoy light refreshments.

West Cornwall Golf Club

Reviewed By Simon H - Great Malvern, United Kingdom

Staying at Carbis Bay and wanting to play golf whilst on holiday meant it was a no brainer to give West Cornwall Golf Club a try
I wasn't disappointed !
From the reception at the well stocked Pro Shop to the food in the club it was a great experience from start to finish
The course iscquite up and down compared to what I'm used to with great views towards both St Ives and Godrivy Lighthouse
Greens were very good and the lay out of the course is challenging ensuring you can't simply get your driver out, you need to think your way round. My wife walked round the course for some of the holes, no complaints from the club and no charge.
Interestingly (and showing their up with the times) jeans are allied in the club house
Hoorah!
We ate both at lunchtime and after I played
The Curry and Fish Pie were excellent
The special brewed IPA was very moorish
All in all a great experience; give it a try yourself!
Top marks to West Cornwall Golf Club

All the pictures Speak for themselves...a great big wide beach... perfect any time of year. We love it in winter as it's lovely and empty...waves are always great on this beach and there's a few decent cafes on or around the beach to take refuge in! A must to go to if you've never been!
