This gallery is loaded with wonderful, locally made works. Mixed media, painting, glass, wood. The level of beauty and creativity is wonderful. The gallery is at the end of the street next to a popular sushi restaurant.

What a lovely drive through acres upon acres of lush green pasture land. Saw lots of cattle. The Big Island is a land of diversity from lava fields to sandy beaches to lush countryside. It was a peaceful drive with quite the elevation gain.

Times for Mass and other services are on their website. The church is on the main highway but slightly set back, smaller sign. Plenty of parking.

Everywhere else seems to specialize in vaping. Some of the tobacco shops in Hilo don't even carry cigars. Great selection, friendly owner.

We met Jim who was volunteering at the welcome center. He gave us some good information about what to see and do in the Kohala area. The best tip was to head to Mahukona beach for great snorkeling and to see the whales when they arrive in the afternoon around 1:30pm. The whales arrived after 2pm and were pretty far out but they put on a good show. Jim and his wife were there and were great sources of information about the big island. I wish we had learned this earlier in our trip. We would have visited there more. Note: there isn't a beach. It is a rocky coast but there is an old port that has steps to get in and out while snorkeling. You can park right by the water and picnic there while you watch the fish because the water is so clear.

First, find the girl selling banana chocolate chip bread-Buy one of those. Then if in you’re there in the right month, find the couple selling dragonfruit smoothies— a blender full of FRESH dragon fruit, FRESH coconut milk & frozen mango- so you climb on their bike & blend your own drink. Then stroll over to the guy at back of market & buy a big bag of freshly made taro chips. On way out get some locally grown lettuce, cucumbers, & tomatoes for the evening salad.

I have been down to Upolu Airport quite a few times. The point is actually on the other side of the runway .Not too many years ago it was possible to just walk across the runway on the start of a nice hike but the have built the fence up around the airport now so it's not worth doing that now. You can get some nice views through the fence though. This is a real small airport with almost no traffic at all. It is several miles down from the Highway. If you're trying to get to the end of the road in the same day then this area is way out of the way. On many days you can catch a nice view of Maui, this is the most Northern point on the Island and you're not very far from Maui across the channel. I've seen many people more or less stranded out here with flat tires because the rocks on the dirt road are fairy sharp. It's not worth it to go of the pavement here unless you have 4 wheel drive. and then you can really only go about 3 or 4 miles along the cliffs before you will need to turn around . For a nice hike; park at the airport and walk west along the the runway fence, then at the end of the fence turn north and go down the Hill this is where you will find the actual point. The dirt is really red here so bring some old clothes you don't care about to go hiking with, if the wind blows much you, your things, your vehicle get dirty fairly quickly. But the views are awesome!
